Hey I'm 18 and interested in getting a sportbike. What are some beginner sportbikes I should look into? New or used it doesn't matter to me but I cant afford anything too expensive

Also what is good mileage for a used bike?

Ex250, ex500, gs500, see a trend?
Start small, you'll be a better rider for it.

i started off on a R6, only because at the time it was a good deal, and i had a friend who's been riding for almost 10 years teach\train me, for several months. passed the road test with my own bike, had a few close calls on the road, but managed, and all is well, so far...

i don't see many people recommend this very often, but i HIGHLY recommend that a person knows\learns how to drive a manual transmission car well, before getting on a motorcycle. it was so much easier for me to learn because i understood the concept of a clutch.

So on my way to the track this morning I ran over a screw and it lodged itself in my rear tire. I literally just mounted these tires a few days ago and they have less than 200 miles on them... I rode 75 miles all the way there on top of getting no sleep only to realize this and then had to ride 75 miles back. I even bought a GoPro Hero 2 with the motorsports package just for this event. I am so freaking pissed off right now.

Peg borrow steal a tire. Thats a part of the tire that win get VERY heavy use at the track, especially on a 1000 you dont want to have a patch there. That's a street tire now.
Go to the organizers and ask them to ask someone if they can spare a descent take off to use for the day.

That's reason #4 not to ride to the track.
Being tired and not getting sleep is reasons #2

My friend and I had our bikes loaded up in his truck the night before but we couldn't strap them down well enough. There weren't enough hooks in the bed for 2 bikes so we both rode there instead. As for the tired part, I tried to sleep but it just didn't happen I guess.

I dont understand your reasoning, but its better to buy a new rear at the track than to ride home.

Found a 2012 Kawa 250R for 3500
2000 miles.

Good deal? I'm nervous on buying used... How can you tell if there is an issue with it besides cosmetic?
Can't ride yet... getting permit tomorrow.

Get experienced friend to ride it around the block. If the frame or forks are bent he will notice. Anything else is just cosmetic.
Don't buy 2012 bike, get something older and cheaper. It won't lose as much value until next year when you'll be selling it.

I'd love to find like a 2010 but no where to be found
They also all hold value very well... If I can't get used for under 3500, I'll just buy a new one for 4200

Like a a car u can sometimes spot tell tale signs. That gashed boot on the replaced new case cover. Rub marks on exposed parts of the frame. Scratches and stuff like that under the plastics.
Get a light look thru every cutout, look at the engine sides and he bolts for the removable parts.
Rim curb age is usually a sign of a get off.
Stuff like that.
If all u see is wear and tear then it's prolly ok.
Besides riding it or having a shop check it out. There isn't really any other way to check the rest of it for Internal problems.
Suspension and engines can be bad and never show signs outside.

Sh!t, someone talk me out of a Hypermotard, they're impractical as fvck for 2-up riding, but I can't stop looking at them and dreaming

Their value on the used market seems to drop way quicker than any other Ducs, so there are a few available at fair prices around here.

They're fun. Just get a steering damper and some louder lighter pipes.
Who gives a damn how they are two up.
