When it comes to lids, just make sure it fits your noggin correctly. Improper fitting lids, can be painfull, and are unsafe.

so im pretty much a noob when it comes to street/sport bikes but i really love the idea of taking the motorcycle safety foundation course, getting my license, and getting a bike. what would be an ideal beginners bike? looking for a reliable beater that i can practice on before I go and get something nicer and more expensive.

Perfect beginner bike.. Kawasaki Ninja 250.

Not a ton of power, you can pick up one of these use for cheap, use it o learn how to ride, and then sell it and upgrade to a 600..

^ No doubt about it... But for someone who has NO experience with bikes (dirt and/or street) it makes sense to learn on something like that...

Agree or disagree?

snik you in the same boat.... if i rememebr correctly we started riding around the same time.. and look where we are....

it's all in control and how you look at riding... ppl who ride just to ride IMO dont really RIDE....

stunters (real ones) not just hey look i can wheelie stunters... and track riders ... they RIDE... push the bike to the limits... ppl who just get bikes to say they have bikes are FTL

^ I understand. I think that everyone has different ability levels, comfort levels, etc. I have been riding dirtbikes since I was 3, so hoping on a streetbike came natural to me. That doesn't stop me from wanting to take the MSF course... Speaking of that.. I should get on that...

you have the base of riding dirt... dirt bike and street bike are very different IMO.... but at least you kno what it's like to be on two...

most ppl just dont give 600cc bikes or hell even 500cc bikes enough credit... and think it's just a "nothing" bike til you step up to a 1K....

i did my MSF in July 2006... lol

it is not... well.. it is if you are in the military they usually offer one for free. BUT... it will NOT get you the M-endorsement.. you'd still hvae to go to the DMV and take the tests... including the riding test.. which you will have to provide your OWN bike... which you either have to trailer it there.. or have a buddy ride it there for you...

or you can look at your local community college... they usually offer classes there... ranges from 200-300....or take it at the harley dealerships

^ its not free. but when i did it the military paid for it, as it was mandatory, and i think it still is.

Its well worth it tho, learn the basics of street riding and stuff, then go do an advanced riding school or trackday.

^ So if I take the MSF course (I have my permit currently), I do not have to take the DMV test to get my license?

maybe in MD, but in NC where i was stationed, upon completion of the course, i went to DMV with the MSF card, and my permit, (which is a prerequisite for the MSF course), and paid $20 and had my M endorsement added.

Some stated do, some dont.
