My Ride: Has 2 Wheels
After responding to a thread on my Triumph forum where a person almost lost his friend in an intersection accident, I decided to ask this here.

For those that ride street. How do you approach intersections?

Aside from being alert and watching for oncoming cars, I've gotten into the habit, when possible, of using a car as a shield when crossing the intersection. What i mean is I ride into an intersection with a car on my left. That way, as bad as it sounds, they would get hit first, giving me a better chance to accelerate to safety. At least that how it run through in my head. I hope I never have to put this into practice.

Does anyone else do this?

Alright, it really depends. The different situation equals different steps to take. I'll try to give you some advice...

1. If you are lane splitting. Make sure you stare at the light(oncoming light) before your light when the oncoming light starts to turn yellow see if anyone looks like they are going to run. And from there you will just wait until they fly by. The reason why you are so alert is because you are lane splitting. You are between 2 cars and either can be mentally retarded and do not notice you and take off quicky running you over. So you want to get out of there asap.

2. Not lane splitting, but at the front. Yes, use any car as a shield. better their car than your bike. And check lights

3. Also, if you are not lane splitting, but happened to be at the front just let the light turn green and just give it a half a second before you go.

I hope that helps... Sorry for the poor grammar. I'm taking a ****! (iphone).
