can i blow my engine on my steptronic 325ci?

i was driving my car today.. hard and i mean over 6000 rpms... i was using manual mode.. and shifting til almost the redline...

i know the automatic and the computer prevents you from over reving the car's engine.. but how hard can you really drive your car??

i like to drive my bmw hard... it is the ultimate driving machine...
used and abused...

Don't worry about it.....bang your car against the rev limiter all day long, you won't have any problems....if BMW didn't think it was safe for you to rev that high, then they would have put the limiter even lower

Here is some 7200 rpm magic for ya

yeah, all cars are pretty over-engineered to handle that kind of abuse.

i think the only way to blow a stock engine is to drive it without water/coolant...

Damn, with all the abuse that goes on here, no wonder you guys are always complaining about BMW reliability.

I'll bet Camry owners have never been near redline.

I wouldn't bet against you on that, who would want to rev those things up

haha, i read the title to this post and thought you wanted to blow up your engine or something so you could use insurance to get a 3.0L or 3.2L.

Re: can i blow my engine on my steptronic 325ci?

I drive like that every day. I'm banging 6250-6400 at least 5 or 6 times a day at stop lights or on the highway.

I've never seen such a large group of granny drivers in my life. Man one dude was just surprised his step would go to 5500 RPM. I mean come on where do you people live? In the Washington, DC area if you don't drive, you get ran over.

You CAN blow your engine with a step. But that would take a hose in the intake, most likely.

Since the xiT has the least powerful engine I've ever used long term, I unwind it quite frequently. Next time around, I may even give up on wagons to get a bigger engine.
