Help please - ESS and air duct
I recently installed the ESS Supercharger in my 2001 330i...
By design, the K&N Air filter goes down in the air space under the driver side headlight. The problem with this area is no airflow. Sure, it can suck in engine space air but, it needs a good positive pressure from an outside source for better flow. Marvelphx suggested that I replace the panel under the driver side fog light with these factory air ducts PN 51 11 7 890 095 & 51 11 7 890 096. I did so and had them painted to my car color. The problem is, the airflow problem is solved but I am concerned that rain will overwhelm the K&N and saturate it. What do you guys think, Is there a way to get the airflow without water ingestion?? Thanks. |

I've been running the ess on my 00 323i for two years in norcal ,humboldt county, we get alot of rain and i've had no problems at all running with it set up the same as yours. Obviously you want to avoid going through any water deep enough to submerge the filter, but other than that an SC will actually perform better with a little moisture as you will be introducing a denser charge of air to the sc. I already ordered an ess for my 03 325i sedan(but i wont put it on til I get 10k on the engine and get the first dealer warranty service out of the way)
