How to reset the Inspection reminder after I did DIY ?

So a friend and I did the inspection II ourselves on my car (2001) and i want to reset the inspection reminder (500 miles left)...

I tried the regular method but it didnt work this is what i did...

key in position 0, press left button on the cluster and hold it, key in position 1, release button, when reset comes on, release, then reset flashes and goes away.

But the inspection ticker is still there...

What does this do then? Just make the ticker go away temporarily?

this should also work for the "inspection":

Quote:
RESETTING OIL SERVICE INDICATOR:
If your OBC needs to be reset after completing your oil change, there are two ways. NOTE: If you miss a step, just turn the key back off and try again:

A. Model Year 1999 to Mid-2000: You should have the older round 20-pin DLC connector under your hood behind the battery terminal, you need to use a small length of wire to connect (short) pins 7 and 19 for 3-5 seconds with the ignition key in position 1 (Accessory).

B. After Mid-2000: You should not have the 20-pin DLC connector. You only need to hold the left odometer reset button while turning the key to position 1 (Accessory). Keep holding the button for 5 or so seconds until any of the following shows in the display: OIL SERVICE or INSPECTION with RESET or RE. Release the button and press it again for another 5 or so seconds until RESET or RE flash. While the display flashes, press the button one more time briefly. If done correctly, END SIA should show up for a few seconds. All done.

You need to keep holding

--The car should be off
--hold down the left instrument button (the trip odometer reset)
--while holding the key, turn the ignition to position 1 (radio)
--you will see a test menu
--keep holding the button
--after maybe 10 seconds, the word "reset" will appear
--let go of the button and press again
--The indicator is reset!"

Your car is a 2000 model. If you have the 20 pin connector, you have to go with option A of Czgsn's post above. Option B will not work.

I had that problem too, I followed directions but nothing changed. I brought it to the dealor, showed them what I was doing...the service manager told me the same thing, it didn't work, then a tech came out and did the same steps but when it says reset and your holding the button down, he pushed the button 2 times and then it reset. I was like are you kidding me...! So long story short, follow same directinos then push the button in a few times and it will reset...def a pain.

Question for you:
Are boobs and hands polarly charged, thus causing the inevitable joining of the two? If so are some breasts simply charged backwards?

On a scale from 0 to 24...wait, 3 to 24, where 6 is the lowest and 12 is the highest, how freaking high re you right now?

She's got you high, and you don't even know yet.

It took me a few tries to get it right at my last Inspection (90k). I think I bungled something, because it also changed my trip odometer from 230ish miles to 660 miles. I was mildly annoyed because I couldn't calculate my fuel economy for that tank.

I believe the "service indicator light reset tool" sold for 323/328's just does what is mentioned in method A.

Later 325/330s which don't have a round 20-pin connector certainly just reset by pushing buttons on the dash as in method B.

inspection / oil change

I have a '99 323i with 20-pin DLP under the hood. After changing the oil I wanted to reset the oil service indicator, shortcutting pins 7 and 19 while the key was in position two. Apparently I connected the pins for too long (perhaps for five seconds, but not longer than that). Now I get "inspection 15500 miles" displayed on the cluster instead of "oil change" when I turn the key to position one.
Does anybody know how to clear the inspection indication and activate the oil service again? Thanks.

Edit: OK, apparently that was a stupid question. The service intervals are preset according to the mileage/spent fuel and one can't choose which one comes next.
