what you wrote is one way, but thats really "what are you saying boy(dude)?"
you can say, "wah gwaan?" = whats going on // "wah yuh deh pon?" = what are you up to (not word for word translated tho) // "wah happen?" = whats up/whats happening.

A lot of Jamaican Patois depends on context used, ad words and phrases tend to have multiple meanings.

yes. as is sean paul's elephant man, bounty killa, shabba ranks, shaggy (some times) and many others...

I had the same experience when I was 18, I went looking for an Airforce Recruiter, but the Marine dude saw me walking by their office and talked me into coming in for a few mins....I really didn't want to, dude was PERSISTENT

30mins later I was READY to sign up! but I held off till I could talk to the other Services a few days later

I eventually did talk to Army and AF recruiters but it was not the same......not sure why I never did join the military (I think it was family pressure) It's one of those things I'll probably be regretting for a while

I'm going to Jamaica for vacation in March for spring break, is there any prior knowledge of anything (customs, culture, etc) to get around? And is there anything particular that i should bring?

Oh trust me, I'm doing quite well now.

I just wish I'd taken a different path to get here.....nothing wrong with appreciating your current position while reflecting on what you could have done differently

I feel like I wasted a lot of years working to pay for college, when I could have joined the military and gotten a lot more out of those years in terms of life experiences. Not to mention the discipline and financial perks of course...instead I spent a lot of time working crappy retail jobs which I REALLY hated.

I do remember why I never signed up now: all the jobs I wanted wouldn't have been available to me because I wasn't a U.S Citizen at the time. I think back then I was told I couldn't get any "sensitive" jobs..............so while I could join the infantry and fight, I couldn't get a job related to my career goals (IT).

I figured if I was going to serve, I should acquire some work experience/training that would benefit me when I got out of the service

unfortunately it is. its a very old problem, one that wont go away and has recently been brought to the spot light as top Dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel is not only bleaching, but sings about it like its cool, basically encouraging it.

i didnt realise how bad it had gotten till i peeped a video of his the other day... very talented kid, but something is wrong in his grape.

its a problem in a lot of other Caribbean islands and in africa too, and some parts of europe. crazy world, white people wanna tan and be dark, and some blacks wanna be white.

kartel even claims to be wearing braces on his teeth just for fun. he had a small gap tooth, but nothing crazy, i dunno, dude has lost his mind. and he used to be my favorite artiste.

Ok another question. When I was there people were very aggressive sales people. Is that just something they are brought up doing? and is it with everyone or just visitors?

They'd give me a pound and be like "respect man respect" and hold my hand and try to sell me something lol.

Friends went down there over spring break. Said there were plenty of ways to come into some stuff.... Kinda too bad for the country.

yep, just pushy vendors. not much you can do about it except pull your hand away and give a firm no.
