Help me fast I have about 4 hours.

Im about to purchase a 1987 325is. I just found it 1 hour ago and Im meeting the guy at 730 est. He wants 2k for the car. It has about 190k on the clock and the AC doesnt work. Im going to take it for a drive but what should I look for in particular. Anything bad with that year for that car?

Look for:

-Torn subframe (check the front and the rear, this is probably most important)
-Dead control arms/bushings, rear trailing arm bushings
-Start the engine and listen for abnormalities (loud ticking, grinding sounds, whistles, pops)
-Check oil level, look for leaks of any kind. See if the head gasket has any leaks around it
-Transmission: is this a automatic or manual? If it's an automatic ask to take it for a test drive and see if it gets stuck in any gears especially on the freeway and under hard acceleration. If it's a manual, check if the clutch is slipping or if you feel any chatter/vibrations when redlining in 1st and 3rd. An automatic with 190k means it may die soon.
-Push down on the front fenders and rear panels to see how worn the shocks are. You should not be able to push the car down easily with 2 fingers.

that's all I can think of at the moment...

Thanks alot. I was able to talk the guy down some more too. 1600. The one thing that is wrong with the car is AC. About how much is the repair on that going to run? I had my AC done on another older car and it was about 500

did you buy it...? I would take it to a local shop for a pre-purchase inspection before I sign anything... if he is pushing to unload it quick there could be more wrong... e30's are old cars these days it they are not care for they can cost big $$ to put right.

edit... big money is relative, I mean it could easily cost 2/3X what the purchase price is and you may never get it back if you sell it...

Bought it and love it. There are a few things though.

Power steering belt
AC
Rusted bolts (having trouble replacing some lights because of. Took me 2 hours to get the thing over the air filter off)
Transmission seal (Surprisingly cheap $180)
Control arms (Not too bad $150)
Shock mounts
And some of the trim Im going to replace because of wear (Shift boot, Bumper Trim, Etc.)

All in all I in the end talked the guy down to $1000 and he had all the records and he was the only owner. Gave me a No Bs assessment. Without the AC it shouldn't run more than $600 parts and labor.

Pics Tomorrow. It rained like hell today

It feels way faster than it actually is. Which I think is pretty ****. I can feel like Im flying and not actually get a ticket. I think the car stock drops to 60 in like 8.5 or somewhere around there. What I really like about the car is the way the steering wheel feels. Ive driven alot of newer BMWs and they dont feel like this car. Granted newer BMWs are 30 times easier to drive. And the front seats seam so big in a car so small. I love this thing. I think my cassette player is broken though. lol

I just bought a white 87 325is a month ago.. I actually saw it in this parking lot and waiting for the person to come back to the car so I can see if I can get it off their hands. It's in GREAT condition.. No scratches or anything on the outside, inside is very clean for a 21 year old car. I don't know what I would do without AC in this weather.. My car has 201k + miles on it, and the odometer isn't working.. but it drives like a champ. I bought mine for $2800 and I think it was damn well worth it. It has a new timing belt, clutch, everything.. Make sure there are no leaks or anything.. 25 MPG FTW. What color is yours?

Here's a pic of mine before I got my tint done a day later. I gotta update my pics with clean cars lol. I'm installing my short shifter in tomorrow morning.. Once I get my stimulus check in I'm gonna us that to buy some Alpina's to throw on there.

I work at Washington Mutual. Many people still have not received their checks. It all depends on the last few numbers of your social security number.

By a car. LOL not on a car. But yeah she said she would do it once the weather got nicer. She and I model together so she already had the idea in her head. It was funny because while I was posting the photos she is all like. Why are you putting those on that car site? And Im just like my friends want to see you naked and shes like whatever. lol But as for the car the weather has been **** for the last day or so.
