I've driven several 335i cars, and they're really nice. I just didn't get the same feeling I got when I got my M. I'm hoping the new M3 gives me goosebumps. I suspect that it will.

The E90 M3 handles similarly to the E92 and posts similar times. BUT, if you want to get technical about it and go E92 vs E92, let's debate...

The 335i plus Dinan S2 package uninstalled plus Dinan Wheels uninstalled with tires purchased ($349-380/tire because Dinan recommends Michelin PS2s and always sends out test cars with them on) adds up to over $56,500, which is the E92 M3 MSRP.

335i - $40,800
Dinan S2 (uninstalled) - $10,382.46
Dinan 19" wheels - $5,096
Michelin PS2 Tires - $1458
Total (uninstalled) = $57,736.46.

That's all assuming you're not paying taxes on the stuff.
Then, add in the Dinan listed 27.3 hrs labor at a reasonable dealership shop rate of $125/hr and you tack on $3,412.50 in labor charges just for the S2 kit.
For a GRAND TOTAL off...$61,148.96 !!!

335i - $40,800
Dinan S2 (uninstalled) - $10,382.46
Dinan 19" wheels - $5,096
Michelin PS2 Tires - $1458
SubTotal (uninstalled) = $57,736.46
Labor (27.3hrs @ $125/hr) + $3,412.50
Grand Total = $61,148.96

And as we've all learned in elementary school, $61,148.96 > $56,500.

Considering the fact that most enthusiasts who are interested in maximum performance aren't budget constrained, the difference in price is negligible ($4649). I do agree that the DINAN 335i isn't cost effective compared to the M3..... but a standard 335i ($40,800) plus more cost effective upgrades like Vishnu Stage 1 ($2795) +Diffsonline LSD ($6980) + LTW5 18x9/18x10 wheels ($1180) + Michelin PS2 ($1202) = Total $52,957... if you must look at it from a price perspective (bang for the buck), this certainly looks more attractive.

Keep in mind that we're also taking into account things like reliability and warranty. You still have coverage with Dinan and stock OEM. Vishnu will void your warranty if the dealership discovers it (and they can). The LTW5 wheels are nice, but they're not on the same playing field as the forged Dinan wheels as far as looks or quality. The Vishnu stage 1 doesn't do anything more than the Dinan stuff, and Dinan gives you an intercooler and larger oil cooler to boot. Using just Vishnu has the potential to burn out your turbos faster. It's about safely making the power, not recklessly making the power. Most people who mod do have budget restrictions. Tack onto that the fact that you still have stock 335i sport suspension and are running that against M suspension. Suspension is key.

Then, the final element is this-it's an M3. It's an M car and is unique, respected, and highly tuned. It's the whole package. Why piece together a mish-mash of products when you already have everything in one nice package like the M3? The Dinan products are supposed to be under the same principle.
