And btw, those prices on cheaperthandirt.com aren't very good!
yeah, my bad. i think i actually confused that site with another one i found but can't find again

I'll keep trying to find it again and post it up if i do.

found a pic of pretty much exactly what my AR is going to look like:

Optics will be a bit down the road due to their prices. At least want to get a decent EOTech reticle sight and a magnifier later on. Should be placing the order for my upper assembly next week!

Oh, and just to keep it going: 5 more days!

lol i said "pretty much" exactly what i want. i'd like to do some long range, hence the magnifying. obviously no need for the flashlight (that is overkill).

Basically going to get the harris bipod, reticle sight, vertical foregrip, and call it a day. Already got the CTR stock and Ergo grip. the magnifier isn't a necessity but would be nice to have for some long range, although i know a scope would suffice which i actually have a decent one laying around that i will probably use instead of blowing the extra money. Don't worry, i won't go overboard. just wait

If you EVER plan on using your weapon at night, you MUST have a light. I put one on every single AR I build. They are not cheap, and you must buy a good one....Surefire is my choice.

I have come in first place many years running in night time tactical style shooting comps. If I didn't have a flash light, I couldn't have even seen the target. And if you want an AR for protection, you need to be 100% sure of your target before pulling the trigger. You will need a light for that.

The only thing "tacti-cool" on that rifle is the harris style bipod on a carbine. If you want a bipod, get the "GRIP-POD" vert. grip. It's weird looking but they work.

The magnifiers work OK....I got rid of my aimpoint 3x after it brought my shooting scores down. They just narrow your field of view down sooo much that it's faster to just shoot with the Aimpoint. But they do have thier uses and I'll probally buy another one. I have a new ACOG that I'm trying out for longer range shooting. But I can hit 12" targets at 300 yards with just a red dot first shoot.

Sounds like you have a use for all that stuff which is good. I personally don't see myself doing any night stuff with my AR therefore the light isn't necessary. In regards to home security... I live in Tustin, CA. Very little crime there so in my opinion having a gun strictly for home security is a waste in this area. I honestly have never thought about buying a gun primarily for protection. It's a hobby of mine and has been for as long as i can remember. I enjoy just going to the range/desert and shooting targets and spending time with people that enjoy it as well. I've gotten my girlfriend excited about my build and just the other day i took her trap shooting for the 2nd time and she loves it. She's gettin pretty good.

But back on topic... I agree about all of your comments and it all just comes down to personal preference and what the gun will primarily be used for. Who knows, I might end up getting paranoid one day and will want all the goodies for day/night protection... until then, I'm just going to go with the basics and a couple things i personally would like to have. May not be 'popular' but hell, thats what makes the gun 'mine'

oh, and in regards to the bi-pod. i wouldn't normally have it attached. I just like the functionality of the harris style bipods and unless im going to be shooting prone, it wouldn't be on. thats the great thing about the quick release rail mounts. for a semi-permanent attachment, i agree with you about the "grip-pod." just adds to the versatility

Just remember crime doesn't care were you live....just think about that PA doctor last year who's wife and kids were all killed and burned alive in a neighborhood with all million dollar homes.

But I wouldn't use an AR for night time home protection anyways.

lol i know i know. you guys keep taking me too literally, hence my reasoning for not having home protection being my "primary" reason for having firearms. it can happen everywhere and in the off-chance that it does, I feel sorry for whoever tries it at my house... 12g 1100 semi-auto, 20g pump, .22LR, .22 Revolver, soon-to-be AR-15 and HK USP .45, and to top all that off, a girlfriend that can shoot all of them quite well.

That site is $450-$500 per 1000, I was 350 total, so I guess I got lucky and found a good site.
