Keyfob remote will unlock but not lock car???

Guys,

It's a strange problem which I did a search for but seems like it's not a central locking problem that people talk about.

Basically, when I use the remote to unlock the car/trunk, they work fine. But it won't lock the car. When I manually use the key to lock, all doors lock and alarm system arms.

When in the car, I can also hit the lock button and both doors will lock.

Anyone had this before??

Thanks!

Problematic keyfob Have you tried it with your other key? The locking mechanism seems to work fine. I think its the keyfob.

Yeah, Ive spent a lot of time searching on the forums and it seems like I may need to just drive the car a bit, and have the battery in the remote charge from ignition. Good news is, it's not a big deal and chances are, it's just the remote battery.

Thanks guys.

I just replaced the battery in my friend's keyfob as per instructions from this thread http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...ey+fob+battery and we're having the same problem. Keyfob unlocks car but won't lock it. Trunk release button works though. I went through the key reset procedure several times and it seems to work fine, i.e., the car locks and then unlocks to acknowledge that the key is "paired". Does she just need to drive the car around some to allow the new battery to come up to full charge? Did that work for you, s14roller?

I'm having a similar problem, but, mine stems from the fact that oftentimes, I can't lock or unlock the car when I am standing behind it. I have to stand off to the side to open it. And I've always found that the BMW keyfob remotes do not have particularly good range. I can unlock my wife's Honda from 3-4 times as far away and that's not saying much because I have to be really close the BMW to use the remote.

the range does suck on the remotes. possibly need to re-acquaint the remote with the car? I recall there is a procedure for this somewhere.
