X5 & X6 M's confirmed by BMW...

If your idea of a BMW M-car is not a four-seat SUV/Coupe that weighs over two tonnes then look away now - because the X6 is joining the party! According to reports BMW has confirmed a high performance version of the X6 after seeing how well the Cayenne Turbo and AMG Mercedes MLs have done.

Speaking with Germany***65533;s Auto Motor und Sport, the boss of BMW***65533;s M division, Ludwig Willisch said that sports versions of the X5 and X6 are in the pipeline and sales are expected to match those of the M5. While they will still be powered by BMW***65533;s new 4.4L V8 twin-turbo engine, output is expected to be higher than the current 400bhp (298kW) and 450lb-ft (600Nm) torque in the xDrive50i.

The car will have larger intakes at the front and could make its debut early next year, said Willisch. It will also have a revised grille and new side mirrors. For the rest of the range he said there will be no 1 Series-based M car and no M3 Touring.

I call BS. AWD and FI are 2 technologies that are completely counter the M Division's guidelines for vehicles. RWD and NA have always been their requirements.

As much as I hate to say it, FI is the future for M. DI models will come first, I imagine, and then FI shortly thereafter. I can't believe they're going with M X series though, that blows. I would MUCH rather see an M1 or M3 wagon than an M X6. That's bullsh!t.

Squared. I never thought I'd see the day BMW would release an M SUV. I find that ludicrous! I find high performance trucks/SUVs of ANY kind silly, but that's just me. I just roll my eyes when people SUV shopping start asking questions about the 0-60 times.

i remember reading a few years back when they explained that, the X5 has too many un M characteristics to earn the M label.
and how they arent like AMG and throwing the M name on everything.

you guys there will be no "M" on those cars, just a sport version like now the x5 is 4.8i and they are gona make 4.8iS, im pretty sure about this, somone just understood wrong!

If that's the case, they've been doing that. So why say it all different and misleading now?

this is not a statement, but more a personal thought, but I think you're right. The X5-X6 just don't fit into the M filosophy. I guess it will be something like the 850csi wich was allso prepared by the M devision but didn't wear the M badge.
