Exactly! This is less bubble-gum, more clove/banana

These flavors are more of a by-product of fermentation than they are from the hops, Belgian yeasts can throw a lot of esters and phenolics. The hop profile in a wit should be just enough to balance it, without adding much flavor.
Interesting, I didn't know that.

Socal folks...20% off 16.5oz beers at Tustin Whole Foods. I already picked my weekend load up, PtE, Sculpin and Yulesmith DIPA; talk about hop land. Go there now if you want a hoppy weekend. Boatloads of Sculpin!

Alaskan ale is delicious, got a growler after our class on the History of American Craft Beers at The Bottle Shop in Dallas.

I'm starting to sound like a broken record in this thread. All I've been buying is Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye. By the case. There are only two stores left that I know of that still have some in stock. One place has removed their inventory from the shelves and keep it in the store room for me. Buy it if you can find it... before it's all gone!

Damnation is a Belgium Style Ale, and it is very good. It has nice citrus notes, and is medium body. The finish is clean with a touch of dryness...not too spicy. I'd say its very flexible with meal choice. If you can find it, I'd say have a bottle or two. Totally worth the $6/bottle.

+1 for Damnation. They also have a sister blonde ale called Redemption and a few other lines.

The refermentation in the bottle is a nice trick. A big bottle of Damnation can be found at a few restaurants in the Napa Valley but they are like $18-20 a bottle. Still, well worth it for the special occasions.

From Sat night: Three Creeks Brewing in Sisters, OR: Five Pine Chocolate Porter. Very nice Pacific NW style porter - almost a stout level of hoppiness, but with the thinner mouthfeel of a good porter. Not much chocolate. Very refreshing and easy to drink:

Has anyone tried Guinness' black lager? One of my friends described it as the diet coke of Guinness. He said it feels and taste like an almost-Guinness

No, but I can't imagine Guinness getting any lighter. Might as well pour a glass of water and whisper "Guinnesssss" over it.

No kidding. Most of my friends have no clue how/why I can always drink so much Guinness when we go out, but they never drink it so they have no clue how light it actually is.

If you guys can get ahold of some of this, do it. A friend of mine cleaned out our local shop and I managed to get one of the last ones he had over the weekend. Such a great summer beer

Had stones Ruination anniversary ale. It's almost, dare I say... too hoppy. Ever chewed on some hop pellets? Taste kinda like that.
