Other than that, I have not been too impressed with German beers. Of course some world-class pilsners come from Germany, but that is not my drink of choice. The legacy of the Reinheitsgebot, along with taste preference of the country, really limits the creativity of the brewers. At least they can finally use some wheat.
that kind of sucks...I'm going to Germany this year for Oktoberfest. I've never been, so I don't know what to expect. Regardless, I'm sure I'm going to have a blast and have some great beers.

Germany is definitely a great country, and I absolutely love Munich, just don't expect much in the way of variety. You'll have a lager and think "Yep, that's a lager"...

Picked up a mixed sixer the other day. Was feeling some stouts and porters. Can't wait to open that DT!

Loving my vacation in Colorado right now. Have had a lot of beers so far.
Left Hand- Wake Up Dead RIS, Good JuJu, Polestar Pilsner, 400#Monkey, and Sawtooth Ale. Pilsner was delish and the RIS was sweet but super chocolatey with big florals of licorice.
Had some Odell 90 Shilling Ale and Myrcenary Double IPA-super good! I'd put it up there with Pliny the Elder.
Also had some Hazed and Infused which was good and with only 4.8% ABV, I could drink that all day.

Tomorrow going to Odell, Fort Collins Brewery, New Belgium, and Oskar Blues!

Here's Myrcenary

^ You will have an absolute blast at New Belgium, that place is like a free beer party for the world. Oskar Blues is pretty cool too!

But if you're going to drink 5 liters of beer in one sitting, that's the beer to do it with.

Swing down to Golden and go to Golden City Brewery http://gcbrewery.com/. So good. And hit up Woody's Pizza for dinner http://www.woodysgolden.com/ - pizza buffet can't be beat.

You make a valid point. After coming back home and being served a 12oz beer I was severely disappointed. I love that 2 beers = 2 liters over there.

From my trip to Oktoberfest in Munich in 2000:

I think that was the Hofbrau Haus, actually)

My friend and I got stuck in Munich for an extra night when the one time the Germans screwed up the train schedule happened to involve our train. We checked into a hotel and immediately went back to the Hofbrauhaus. 2/3 of the nights in my life I have spent in Germany were spent there

I had my first sampling of Russian River Brewing: Damnation Ale.

Damnation is a Belgium Style Ale, and it is very good. It has nice citrus notes, and is medium body. The finish is clean with a touch of dryness...not too spicy. I'd say its very flexible with meal choice. If you can find it, I'd say have a bottle or two. Totally worth the $6/bottle.

I love me some Ommegang, Hennepin in particular

I had never seen the words Imperial Black IPA until Sunday afternoon. It was heavy, to say the least.
