2002 330ci Dyno Results

Had my car dyno'd about a month and a half ago, but I finnaly got my hands on the WinPEP files so I could get the proper graph .. but anyway ..

Car is stock except for my Kpeng special exhaust

We only did 2 pulls, so I had them do the first pull in 3rd and the second pull in 4th

1st Pull - 3rd Gear:
  • Temp:106.13F
  • Humidity:19%
  • Correction: SAE
  • Max Power:201.72
  • Max Torque:198.69

2nd Pull - 4th Gear:
  • Temp:105.68F
  • Humidity:19%
  • Correction: SAE
  • Max Power:203.48
  • Max Torque:205.02

I'm pretty happy with it considering I'm not a ZHP and only have exhaust done .. plus the car had about 88k miles on it at that point ..

Thanks guys .. that was at around like 1pm, and it was hot as **** in that garage .. that is corrected data though, which I beleive compensates for the heat, but am not sure .. need more mods now

A bunch of my friends and I had a "Dyno Day" .. I think we had 15 cars .. and we paid $40/each for 2WD for 2 pulls .. and I think the AWD cars were $45 or $50 for 2 pulls .. generally around here I think they do about $50-60 for 3 pulls

and thank you

Not trying to thread jack

I want headers, just dont wanna get em if I have to remove them for smog

That would make the performance aspect complete for me

Maybe I'm just naive, but as another 2002 330ci owner, aren't we supposed to have 225 horsepower? Not 201, not 203, but 225? Where'd the other 22-24 hp go?

225 at the crank I believe, not to the ground

the 225 is BHP .. which is measured at the crank

the dyno reads RWHP (Rear Wheel HorsePower), which is what you are actually putting down after all the drivetrain loss .. I beleive about 15% is the average for a manual ...

so judging by my RWHP I would be around 238 BHP .. so I picked up roughly 13 BHP from my kpeng exhaust that everyone makes fun of because they are pissed they spent $700 on an exhaust

Ah, I see. Thank you for clearing that up guys. So, why don't auto manufacturers measure horsepower that actually goes to the ground?

Because higher numbers sell more cars, and the average consumer doesn't know the difference .. sad, but it's true

....soooo, you're saying you picked up 13 BHP by cutting off the muffler and resonators?

Not knocking the exhaust, I was planning on doing that mod as well, just seems like that claim may be off a lil......correct me if I'm wrong

+1 - find out what kind of dyno you were running on as each type tends to have different results.

Also, I *highly* doubt that your exhaust gained you 13bhp. More likely, the drivetrain loss was less than 15% or the advertised crank power numbers were off.
