Exclamation BMW working on M3 CSL with 470 hp

Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2008 BMW M3.

The rumormongers at AutoZeitung are reporting that BMW plans to unveil a stripped-out, track-ready M3 at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The E90-based M3 CSL will use many of the same tricks BMW employed on the E46 model in an effort to shave the coupe's curb weight. Luxuries like air conditioning, stereo and navigation won't be included, while the hood, bumper, trunk and fenders will all be swapped out in favor of carbon fiber pieces.

In addition to keeping the pounds down, BMW will reportedly boost the output of the M3 CSL by an additional 50 horsepower, for a total of 470 bhp. That should allow the E90 CSL run to 60 in around four seconds, on its way to a top speed of around 185 mph.

Production of the 2010 BMW M3 CSL will be limited to 100 units and pricing is estimated at 90,000 euro, or just over $140k.

Yeah I thought there was another thread posted not too long ago about BMW ditching the CSL to work on the x5 and x6 M-series. CSL would be awesome though a bit pricey IMO.

Here we go again. Same sh!t, different day.

BMW and M GmbH have DENIED that they have a CSL in development. All of those "facts" are rumors with no backing.
However, a lot of people still believe that BMW is secretly going to release one, and they only want to keep the tension up. But there is no evidence.

The more I think about it. If it was true and that pricing were accurate is a CSL really worth twice the price of a normal M3!? I can't imagine the differences that there would have to be to justify a markup like that.

With that price tag... I don't know. Why would anyone buy it over an aston if they want a "unique cool luxury car" or either the super corvette or GT-R if they want a super performance car (and this is coming from a hardcore bmw fan)

Just as reference to BMW's tactics. They denied EVER planning an M version of the Z4 since the introduction of the Z4. Rumours were it will get the M3's 333-hp motor, the other was it'll get a 4.0l V8. BMW kepts saying, nope, the 3.0 is the sporty version and just as good as the old M Z3. If the CSL makes business sense, it will be made, however not yet.

Pricing is way too early to discuss, but the car will likely be made.

Oh yeah, whoever is so flabbergasted by the price: Note that the base price of an M3 is 66,650EUR over here, that's over $103K right there

Seriously!? I guess I would have imagined a price break for the locals. Its not like they have to ship it far. Then again I guess didn't see all the Italians with Ferraris last time I went.

Yep, that's pretty much SOP for BMW - they don't want people to delay buying a car waiting for some other version, so they deny they're working on it until they're ready to start taking orders. For the Z4, they said there were no plans for a coupe and there was never going to be an M. What's that in my sig?

It was announced a while back that there will be no M3 CSL. So they either lied to us and want the CSL to be a surprise or that article is bogus.

I say: The article is bogus, the "facts" too, but there will still be a CSL coming out, even if BMW denies it.

Limited to 100? Riiight. Although the E46 CSL had problems being sold at the beginning, all of them were sold soon afterwards, with the request for more. The price difference was about the same back then as it would be now: 40% increase to the standard M3.
