As you guys know I've been trying to sell my rims, but check out this potential buyer

I dont know where to post this really, so if its in the wrong place sorry.

Also if the guy is on this board, I'm sorry if this is a good faithed buyer. I'm just watching my back, and getting advice.

I am obviously very skeptical, thoughts?

"Hi,
I 'm interested in this your 19inHM2, Flawless w/tireSP9000,which is $2500 and the price is okay by me,I want it shipped to Cotonou Benin Republic in Africa I'll arrange for the shipping myself. Hope payment by a cashier's check will be ok.If this is alright with you, do get back to me immediately so I can arrange for the payment.

I await your timely response.

what's there to be skeptical about? if you you're the seller, wait until payment clears or whatever and he also said he's paying for shipping, so

He sounds legit and if he's paying first, I dont see what the problem is so long as the money is in your hands....good luck!

Ok ok. I mean it seems alittle weird to send used rims to Africa when shipping must cost as much as the rim.

I dont have a problem doing it, i just dont want ot get burned.

Be sure you allow time for the money to clear. Scam artists are becoming very resourceful and are even forging cashier's checks! So make sure your bank OK's the check's validity before you do anything, then you can go ahead.

(Yes, give the check at least a week in your bank, preferably two. My bank has the nasty habit of clearing checks completely the day after they're deposited, which can be annoying if they bounce later on.)

Sorry, I hate to say this, but that is VERY bad advise. The buyer can easily pay and then have paypal reverse the payment by complaining that he never received the items. Even if you've transfered the funds to your bank account you will owe Paypal the money you transfered, your Paypal account will get frozen until things are resolved.

In order to protect yourself from this situation, always ship items via a courier that can track the shipment and provide signature for proof of receival.

In Drewcons case, I would say, take the cashier check but have him get it from a large international bank, and wait until it clears, then ship. Or, if he's willing, have him wire you the money through Western Union. You may take a small hit in fees, but its guaranteed to protect the seller from scam.

!!!!!!!!STOP!!!!!!!!

DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS GUY!!! IT'S A SCAM.

He sent me an email just like that one regarding the wheels I'm selling too. He's a scammer. Don't fall for this bullsh!t. This guy is a scam artist! I hope no one on this board has fallen prey to him.

God damn, this kinda sh!t realy pisses me off!!!

Here are the emails I've exchanged with him:

****************************************************
Hello!
thanks for the response to my Purchase-Enquiry,and so i am ready to purchase the tires and wheels as soon as possible.
The payment($1800 USD)will be made via Cashiers Check drawn on a US Bank, cos there is some-one in the United-State who is owing me some money, who i can instruct him to make out a check to you,but the funds he his owing me is $8,500 USD Which i believe is the fastest way the payment could be made, because if the check is to be sent to me,it will take about 30 days to clear here in my country, but if it's paid directly to you,it will take up to 2-3 days to clear and so i am willing to entrust you with the excess funds on the cost, which you must send to me via Western Union as soon as the Check clears in your Bank.My Shipper will be on ground to pick-up the tires and wheels in your location to sign the relevant titles and papers on my behalf as soon as we seal the transaction and the payment is made.So if my Payment terms is acceptable with you,you can mail me back with your payment address which you are going to use to receiving the check payable in america fund with your contact phone number.

waiting for your fruitful responce.

thanks
Jeff.

Hey guys,

Its a scam! I sold massive body kits to someone who wanted shipping to Indonesia. The check was forged and looked very legit and even my bank took it. Weeks later (after shipping of course) the Feds realized what was going on because of numerous incidents and froze all my assets and reviewed the checks. Obviously I was cleared and so was my bank account.

This is a well known scam that will surely do nothing but cause you headaches. There are several bogus people out there that are sending fake cashier's checks. What can happen is the bank accepts it, you think its good, ship the merchandise and then the bank tries to collect, and find it bogus. They come after you for the money they are out.

Not a good deal and not worth the headaches you'll have to endure trying to get out of this mess.

Not to offend anyone in particular, but I wouldn't deal with anything out of Africa. Just too risky in my opinion. The Nigerian scams are well documented and they are getting smarter. These types of deals that you mentioned have been documented many times over, with the seller being left hanging with a bum check and no merchandise.

Biggest scam we see at the banks are around tax time. People create fake US Treasury tax return checks. You'de be amazed how many banks (even the larger ones) will think it real and grant instant access to the funds (thinking that a US Treasury check can't bounce for lack of funds). Then, when they deposit it - the Fed comes back and says "not one of our checks"

Mostly, these checks are from Latin/South America.
