BMW cancels E92 M3 CSL!

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/27/r...of-e92-m3-csl/

http://forum.e90fanatics.com/e90-e91...cancelled.html

Quote:
There were around 1,400 examples of the BMW e46 M3 CSL built, and by all accounts they were exceptionally well received. However, according to Ludwig Willisch, the boss of the automaker's M division, the current e92 M3 won't get the same treatment. He - or perhaps the accountants - feel that "based on current numbers, there is most likely insufficient demand for the M3 CSL."

If a current scorching version of the e92 were to exist, it would have been bumped by anywhere from 36 to 56 horsepower, shed 200 pounds or more, worn some different tires and a set of bigger lungs. In light of the possible volume, though, which would be small, BMW - or again, its accountants - would rather focus on the X6 and X5 for now. Thanks for the tip, Mike!
That's just sad....

Actually, this model we might've so that cars like the GTR & GT3 RS could have some on-track competition.

Lets hope its just a cunning plan to create hype and gauge how many serious buyers await the new CSL - after all the spy shots suggest testing has been carried out - why go to all that expense an then simply can an icon that made the M3 the car it is today

Well, that test was a modified E92- we don't know if it was a CSL for sure. They made 300 different E36 M3s, it could be some special edition to take place of the CSL...something different, point is we don't know.

But according to World Car Fans, BMW isn't going to be producing a direct line vehicle to compete against the R8. Instead they are going to enrich the X5/X6 lines to Cayenne GTS standards +. Such BS.

BMW has stated the it won't make a CSL, and for the time being, I believe them. This doesn't mean BMW won't come out with a track version of the M3 that is more race=inspired than the CSL. I suspect that BMW has an ace in the hole that they haven't released yet. They have a supercar in the works, or at least in planning. They do crap like that. The Z8 was practically a surprise when the concept model came out.

how are they making such huge mistakes when cayenne turbos sell awesomely and so are cayenne S and the new GTS is expected to sell well again.... you have no idea how many cayenne S's and turbos are running around in my neighborhood, obviously a high performance SUV is required to get some of that market share

also bmw knows that their best high performance car will never be as good as a porsche GT3 anyway so they will always be 2nd... why try for 2nd? <-- quoted from topgear's final verdict on the CSL that bmw's best not as good as porsche's best

bmw supercar? look at the competition? how can you make it competitive when ferrari is light years ahead of all the technology and advancements?
you cant make it competitive unless you mark it up ridiculously for the R&D you will pay... and why should anyone buy a bmw supercar when there are lambos and ascari's and koenigseggs? just look at how many people bought the M6, thats priced at $$$100k, and how did it sell? sh!tty

bmw is doing their best holding their market share as a performance luxury company and thats what they do best... selling entry/mid level executive cruisers and M3 M5 models..

BMW claimed they would never make a z4 coupe after the z3 and they made it. it is still early in the e9x M3 cycle who knows what they will do in a few years
