My Ride: needs to be dropped
XI Control Arm Question

Okay, as most everyone knows the XIs have a different front control arm setup than the regular E46 cars. Specifically, the ball joints on the XI control arms are actually separate from the control arms and are incorporated into a bracket that then is connected to the control arm. I'm looking at BimmerWorld and I can get the ball joints/brackets and urethane CABs separately. Nobody makes "performance" control arms for the XIs so I'd have to go OEM. In light of this, is there any need to replace the actual control arms?

Any help would be appreciated.

The outer ball joints on the Xi control arms are integrated into the arm. The inner ball joints are separate from the arm. So, if the outer balljoints are good, no need to replace the whole arm, but if they are loose, you need to replace the arm.

Yeah, I did end up noticing that. I guess I'll have to check the outer balljoints when I get closer to doing the job. As it is now, I don't have steering wheel shudder at speed nor do I have steering wheel jerking when braking so I'm thinking my CAs are okay......for now.
