You might just be at the point where you need to add oil. Have you checked your oil level lately? It might be tripping the sensor in the morning when the oil isn't running through the car, but as it warms up (both the car/weather) it shuts off as the oil expands.

Might be a bad o ring in the oil pan. Seal heats up and expands as the day goes on, creating a good seal. In the mornings, the seal is contracted.

Thought you had checked your oil level first...

Hey,

I have this light on today, and indeed the oil is just bellow the lower line.

What brand and grade of oil do people use to top up?

Anyone know what grade the dealer uses and is it synthetic??

Cheapest and most simple way is to just get the 5w-30 BMW/Castrol oil from the dealer. Not too expensive and it is synthetic. Other commonly available choice is Mobil 1 0w-40, and usually a little more expensive than the BMW oil. Don't worry, they mix together fine and are almost identical in their properties despite the different numbering.

In general, only use oil that is BMW Long Life approved. And M engines require their own special grade of oil, but that is a different topic.
