Thumbs Up My first experience driving stage 3 with traction in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, ...

I just got to experience driving an HPF stage 3 M3 with speed based boost control and the HPF traction control system (running race fuel at around 800rwhp). F@#$ this car pulls hard!! Before 1st through 3rd were useless. Now, 1st through 3rd is absolutely evil... My head was literally hitting the back of the seat between shifts and there was nothing I could do about it. All with factory tires on the car!! I did not even notice that power was pulled, just that the car hooked like it was powered by a rocket on the back. I can't wait for JP to finish the tune so I can do a 1st through 6th pull.

We're going to release this new system with all stage 3 and 4 turbo systems.

We'll retrofit MyTrans and Ardika's stage 3 M3's, and Richard's stage 3 M3 will be done next week and that will get it too along with the HPF M3.

Once the final tuning is completed, my staff will take a bunch of videos and we'll post them up.

Holy crappo.........this sounds like one hell of a technical innovation. If this works as well as Chris says, I would have to assume this will make stages 2.5 and 3 a lot more appealing to a lot more people. Nice work hpf!

Would this system be of much use to stage 2 customers? I mean performance gains vs cost?

Oh yeah, when do we get to see some vids of the hpf shop car in motion?????

How does the system work exactly? Is it able to adjust itself if a customer has a widebody and/or drag radials and is able to put more power to the ground than stock rims/tires?

What about if the owner of the car changes his tire to a wider tire meaning he can handle more boost without spinning... the boost controller can take that into account right? HPF does everything good so im expecting it will basically take you right before traction loss no matter what the weather is or the tire size.

This is no silver bullet: traction control can only optimise the traction available, it cannot manufacture more traction. Traction control works by reducing engine power until the available traction is not exceeded by the limit set. So a turbo car with better traction (through better/larger rubber) will still outperform, all other factors being equal.

In regards to tire size fitted, this is irrelevant. The traction control works by comparing front/rear wheel speed sensors and applying an algorithm. The more traction offered by your tires, the later or lesser the traction control will trigger (ie the greater performance). The system does not need to be recalibrated should you change tires.

Further, the widest rubber available in an 18" wheel will still not be enough to provide 100% traction for the sort of power a 3.2 litre engine with a turbo can make. you could put a 345/30 R18 tire under the car and you'll still be able to smoke them well inside the power potential of the S54B32 with a turbo. That's why traction control is so attractive for street cars.

Traction Control, Boost Control and Speed based Boost Control are all different things. I posted about traction control above.

Speed based boost control is another algorithm inside the ECU to limit or cap the variable boost setting depending on various factors. One would be what gear you are in, another would be your ground speed. This speed based boost control would operate hand in hand with traction control - ie the speed based boost control would be overidden by traction control should the car enter the state that triggers traction control to reduce engine power (fuel/spark cut).

Speed based boost control is an attempt to prevent triggering traction control by dynamically limiting boost dependent on various factors. For example, you're in 3rd gear at 100 kph, the system limits boost to 20 psi. You're in 1st gear at 10 MPH, the system limits boost to 12 psi. You're in 6th gear at 240 kph, the system no longer limits boost (I just pulled those numbers out of my arse as an example).

This sounds like a massive achievement.

Would be interested in hearing some acceleration times though..

for example best M3 0-60(mph) time i've heard is 4.8

0-100 etc
