Help! Fuel pressure regulator and sap

So my car has check engine CA smog is due this month what a bi!ch.
I tested all (secondary air pump) parts Everything checked out good electric valve, vacuum check valve, air pump, some vacuum hoses rotted out replaced hose, cleared codes, car good for a few day then light comes back, what? Ok remove everything one more time electric valve Behind intake what a bi!ch, sprayed maf cleaner inside electric valve, vacuum check valve, cleaned them both retested then tested air pump, every thing good. Cleared codes so far good but I only ran car about 30 miles should due at least 50 for monitors to be ready but i think (SAP) only work on cold start. We will see what happens, what is weird is that
I've been messing around with fuel trim and 02sensors Got a scanner and learning a lot, so my car has a -1.6 long fuel trim, which is no big deal almost perfect fuel trim. So I decided to change my fuel filter, I've never changed it, I found vacuum hose from fuel pressure regulator gone, how could I go so long with out FPR working properly but no check engine, car ran good but not like it ran before, or maybe that's me. So what is the purpose of FPR also my fuel on my dash shows 11.6mpg or is that just from a heavy foot. Hopfully with vac hose replaced mpg will increase

Hi there

Curious to know where is the fuel pressure regulator located in the 2000 328ci? Is the picture you posted in the area where the fuel filter is or is the regulator in the engine compartment? I am diagnosing lean codes and want to check the fuel pressure regulator

Thanks
Mark

The fuel pressure regulator is located near the fuel filter on some cars on others the regulator is built into the fuel filter don't remember what year this was done maybe someone else can chime in on this. Look for a filter DIY to help you find the area your looking for once you locate the filter follow the fuel lines towards the engine and the regulator should be right after the filter if it is not present then it's part of the filter and the filter has to be changed to replace the regulator.

I believe the hose your asking about goes up into the engine compartment and connects to the upper intake hose. This is a common source for vacuum leaks.

Since OPs question is from January 2016, OP probably solved it.
