Hello!! B7 S4 to E46 M3 hmmm....

Hi guys

Contemplating getting into an e46 shortly, but just doing some reading/driving as of now - wanted to take the time to introduce myself.

Im currently in an 06 s4 full boltons, tune, etc. love the car, especially the sound and torque of the V8 but just looking for something different. Drove an smg e46 today and its safe to say I was pleasantly surprised with the car. I went in expecting less of it (70k, smg etc.) but it felt very solid and drove very nice, also the power was more than I anticipated it to be. Hopefully going to look at a 6spd one in the near future - since that is what I would want to get...

Heres the kicker. If I get one, the car WILL be getting modded, and possibly would be seeing boost - as for a s/c or HPF, I havent decided. Also, I would more than likely be DD'ing the car in the spring/summer/fall so I really wouldnt want to sacrifice drivability. Still seesawing about staying naturally aspirated or going f/i though...just sharing some of my plans.

My questions are...how do these cars hold up to forced induction? How is reliability, more specifically? Anybody go f/i and wish they didnt? Can the stock tranny, rear end, and suspension support the added power (I know about the subframe reinforcement)? Anybody care to share some dyno numbers? And last but not least what type of mileage are people seeing (gas wise)?

Good choice! Going from understeer to neutral is always good.

My Ride: 2002 E46 M3
I just moved from a B7 S4 to an E46 M3 about 2 wks ago (both 6MT) and love the M3. My S4 had headers, tune, etc etc and was a fun car but consumed oil and got horrible mileage while performance was just decent (even with all the mods). I also had no idea what the M3 was all about until I happened to ride in a friend's car. The only things I miss about the Audi are the top-notch interior, the awesome low-end torque (esp w/headers), and being able to rocket out of a turn w/out breaking loose.

To me the M3 is just a more serious sports car all around - I am reminded more of my 20yr-old Porsche turbo than the S4. I'm also getting considerably better mileage in the M3 (19-21 mpg) - that was one reason I didn't go with the E90 M3 (besides the high cost). I don't think you will regret going to the E46 M3.
