Use a level/straight edge and run it from the fender lip to the ground. Measure space from rim lip/tire to the straight edge and there's the size you need to be 'flush'. You'll only pull flush off if you have some stretch.

Poke is gay.

Hey guys,

I'm hoping you can save me a little time and effort. My issue is this: Rear spacer, what size. Now, before everyone says, "Just measure...", I don't have the wheels on the vehicle yet and want to get spacers ahead of time.

What I'm looking for is anyone with past experience with this setup (or close to it) so I can order some spacers BEFORE the wheels get mounted on rubber --and the car:
2002 330Ci
Wheels are VMR VB3s in Super Silver, 18 x 8.5 40 mm offset. Square setup.
Don't have tires yet, but I'm thinking of 235/40/18 all the way around.

I'd like the fronts and rears to be close to flush, (mostly focused on the rear wheels tho), but tucked in a tad isn't too bad either.

So, does anyone have any suggestions (that don't include measuring myself?) on what size spacers to get?

Most everywhere I looked suggests a 15 mm or 20 mm spacer for the rears.

Thanks in advance!

PS- Do "chain" tire mounters like, say, like Sears, mind spacers on the car? Or will they refuse to mount wheels with spacers?

I'm now running style32s, lowered, with the following:

front: 18x8 et:20 215/40/18
rear: 18x9 et:24 225/40/18

Fronts have not rubbed a single time yet but rear sidewalls rub on bumps/semi-aggressive cornering.

Based on that, and if you run the same size tires as me you'd want 14mm front spacers and 21mm rear spacers.

So 15 front and 20 rear would work. You'll have rubbing in the rear but if you dig out the rubber in the lip and roll/pinch it flat, it won't rub. I have 5mm spacers for when I roll my rears.

Subtract 5mm from both spacers, or run more camber, and you could run 235 all the way around.

Our specs are so different in terms of lowering (I'm not, you are), tires (I'm probably getting 235/40/18's), offset of your wheels vs. mine (40 mm on all four) that I'm not sure this helps me...but I appreciate the response!

Really looking for someone with an almost identical setup (18 x 8.5 and 40 mm offset all around, non-lowered) to see which size spacers I need (front and rear? or just rear only?).

Offset is always offset. You can compare my rims, to yours, and get the difference. It's literally basic math.

15mm front, 20mm rear spacers, roll your quarter panel lips after you dig the rubber out of the lip, and you'll be fine with your 235/40/18. I've ran tons of tire/rim setups between various cars and always run 'my definition of flush'.

Not VMR, hope I don't get in trouble posting these pics here.

I see what you're saying re: the math. But I don't want to roll fenders or anything like that. So does that change the size of the spacers I'd need? And I like the photos... that's about as flush, or close enough, as I'd like to get them myself.

Run 5mm smaller spacers. Get 10mm front and 15mm rear, and you should be able to run your 235/40 without a problem.

I had 245/40/18 on last with 18x8 with +43 offset before this/as a winter setup with all seasons. They are what I did my measurements off of to find new rims and I just happened to find the style32s in the sizes/offset to get to where I wanted. The front tires rarely rubbed, but again, I'm lowered, and that was mainly on the splash shield.

Finally have pics to add to this thread

18" square set up with 35 offset and 225/40-18's all around. Love the fitment.

Stock suspension right now, that will change soon.

black 710s in 18 x 9.5 ET 33 all around... 15mm spacers on rear. fun setup. always wanted a "blacked out" car but, honestly, thinking of going with a different color.

anyway, here they are!

You need black kidneys, side vents, smoked front reflectors, and smoked/tinted tails. I'm not too much of a fan of fully blacked out. I've seen very few cars pull it off.

I'd go with red clear red euro tails and clear agree with the rest. If you don't want all stealth could keep chrome kidneys and side vents. Reflectors must go ASAP!

I completely disagree about needing black/smoked stuff. I guess you missed where I said I wanted to go with a different color.... meaning i want to change the wheel color. in theory it sounded cool to go stealthy, but I'm not a fan and don't want to continue down that path with other black parts. I usually just keep my silver hartge wheels or 18"OEMs on the car bc I don't like the black wheels on carbon black... but they're square so I like the black VMRs for autoX/track

hizhinezz: I agree about the reflectors ... I do like my chrome grilles/vents, and would update the lights if they weren't so expensive ... waste of money unless I have an issue with one and then I'll upgrade them bc i don't really mind these anyway.

and yes, it's MIR for a bmwcca autox a couple weeks ago, was like a mini track day

Nope.

You said I 'always wanted a "blacked out" car' but it's not blacked out. Just has black rims.

That's all I meant!

yeah - I see what u meant - I was just saying I wanted one... got the wheels and decided against it. I didn't need to go all the way before realizing it was a poor choice. haha. like you said, very few cars pull it off well... and I didn't want to try that hard.

now I just need to decide what to do with the wheels to make em look better..paint, polish, plastidip...

Don't plastidip wears out too fast and looks tatty, paint or polish!

FTR I'm growing weary of my own "blueout" stealth look and thinking I'm going to have mine stripped and painted silver or something brighter...

I think clear corners are a good way to avoid stealth if you don't like, as are chrome kidneys and side vents.
