My budget is about $8.5k, hoping to find a clean 328i or 330i with ~100k miles. Also, have you seen a nice silver RSX-S around Janesville? I know a guy in Janesville with one, sooo nice.
Can't say I have seen it, or remember it if I did. Do you drive the roads around Mt Horeb much? We met a similar looking RSX a few times one day out there last year.

Something to think about when you get your e46, Koni FSDs help a fair bit on crazy bad roads. I've had mine in for just under a year now.

I'll keep my eye out for an e46 that fits your description. Any package options you are looking for?

No i haven't really been by Mt. Horeb and i've only had the the RSX since September.

Manual
black, white, or silver
328i or 330i
110k miles at most

I don't know much about the packages

To be honest, $8.5k and 100-110k miles is probably pushing it for a 328 or 330. Most 328's are higher mileage nowadays and the 330 will fetch a higher price. In my experience, pick one or the other, especially when looking for a manual. There are quite a few around that price range with automatics, but contrary to Kelly Blue Book, manuals fetch a higher, not lower price. These cars are built pretty well though, if maintained properly. I got mine with 133k miles and I am currently at 177k after less than a year and a half.

Wikipedia's page on E46s is also a pretty good read.

Just curious, what brought you to looking for a bimmer after getting the Acura last summer?

I've always liked BMW's and i've grown out of the "tuner" stage. The RSX was fun at first but now it's too small for me. A black, white, or silver sedan with quality subs and tint is perfect for me.

So i'm probably going to be looking at a 1999 BMW 328i soon..anything specific i should look for considering its the "guinea pig" of the e46?

Does anyone know a reputable shop in Madison that can install a double din with the steering wheel controls/climate controls?

Sub Frame cracking is the number one issue. Make sure that the car that you are buying has been inspected/fixed for this issue before you buy the car.

Other issues are the common ones that you should have service records for:
Cooling system issues/replacements
Suspension work has been completed
Window regulators are functional
etc.

I'll help some weekend or night.

Look into a Dynavin. Looks stock, and has steering wheel button support. If you can't get an Android version (contact Jeff@DynavinSolutions), it would be worth the wait to get one.

Let me know if you want to meet up and see mine sometime, otherwise, we are trying to organize a meet on the 30th I believe.

$750 shipped. Well worth it in my opinion to have something that looks like it belongs in the car and matches the trim vs the blue "standard aftermarket" dual dins. Also, the two bay nav area in an e46 is wider than a standard din, so you have to make/buy a bezel, which at least in the carpc world, is not cheap.

You guys know the Holy Hill area better than I do. I'll help out with the June meet though if we are going out to the Mississippi, since I know those roads better.

Interested in doing the Mississippi roads on the 30th? I will have to go back that way to go home to MN after my trip to MKE.

I'd be up for it. Here is a gps dump of the last time I went out west of Madison.

Not sure. From start to finish there, and back, I would estimate ~120mi total?
