Body shop messed up my Vorsteiner hood paint job, and I think I LIKE IT!

Okay, this is gonna sound F**KED. Bear with me (as I'm drinking):

Bought a Vorsteiner hood from another fanatic (Shimajer), and had it painted. When I bought it, it was painted blue (my car is silver). Original plan was to re-expose the black CF vents, leave em black, and paint the rest silver. Now my body guy isn't a custom freak or carbon expert (as he mostly does OEM work), and he didn't have much confidence in stripping the blue paint and re-exposing the carbon (he told me up front that he was worried about ruining the CF). So we decided to simply paint the vents black, rest of hood silver. So I got this done (picked her up today), but the body shop messed up.

In order to get the 2-tone look (black vents), they sprayed the hood ENTIRELY black, baked it dry, masked off the vents, and painted the rest of the hood silver.

The problem: when they masked off the vents, the black paint wasn't entirely dry I guess, so when they removed the tape, there were tape/glue marks on the vents. They tried to remove the imperfections, but it was too late. They immediately offered to redo it. But the tape marks left this marble-like pattern on the vents, and as nuts as this sounds, I think I like it! Its a very neat accident. Pics attached. It almost looks like suede.

I'm gonna leave this alone for a bit before deciding, but I'm SERIOUSLY considering LEAVING it this way. I know that sound bizarre, and maybe its the wine talking. I could easily get a discount on the job for the screw up, or since I have tons more work for them (M3 rear, Rieger CS front, black roof, Hagus mirrors), I could get a future discount. Or I get it repainted at their expense. They apologized a billion times already (love these guys), and I'm not sure WHAT to do now!

Fanatics opinions please! I'm sure this will be reconsidered in the morning, when I sober up. I think I'm just happy to have a hood back that isn't silver grey (been driving around with a loaner hood, no kidneys, and no roundel). I'll try to take better pics tomorrow. They did a GREAT job otherwise. The matte black kidneys look awesome (they painted em), and made em fit since Vorsteiners kidney fitment is unbelievably AWFUL. Mine are now urethaned and permanent.

Looks like he used regular masking tape.. this is a nono.. your bodyshop should know this..
looks weird.. for a quick fix you could scuff it and spray the vents flat/ satin black.

looks kinda cool but for it to work you should do that texture as your second tone in the theme...that way it has something else to go with

I think it's pretty interesting. Something different and kinda cool. I vote for leaving it and painting some more of the car with that type of paint scheme.

Sneaky: can't do it man. My car SUCKS right now. My CSL front has a mesh grill that's silver/chrome in addition to paint chips (it's GROSS man). My M3 eBay rep mirrors are peeling paint. My Mtech1 rear doesn't line up with my Rieger side skirts. It's a cacophony of unpleasantness. Once I get the M3 rear on, Hagus mirrors, Rieger CS front with a matte black grill, THEN I'll take pics of this thing and not be embarrased.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll take better pics tomorrow. Aside from the tape issue, it looks really good! And I'm still not convinced this is bad. Maybe its the booze talking, but I really don't mind it. And if I can get a better deal on painting/installing the M3 rear and Hagus mirrors, might not be a bad option!

I don't think I'll ask them to f**k up the roof with the same pattern though.

Question: getting the roof done black for sure. Should I get the Hagus mirrors I have done black too, or silver?

Damn you bastids for messing up my drunken happy buzz. The plan when I left my body shop was to get it re-done. I was hoping for someone to convince me to leave it as is. I'll decide once I sober up. I agree that if there's any chance it will get worse, it should be fixed up proper. Maybe I'll have the vents re-done in jet black, as per the original plan. If there's ANY chance of it fading over time and looking worse, it should be fixed now. I gotta get the M3 rear done + Hagus mirrors + a fender re-sprayed before the real winter hits, so I tend to agree with JonJon. Fix it NOW before it gets worse. Never considered the fact that it might get uglier later on.

Gotta look at it sober in the morning/afternoon. At the very least, I gotta take better pics of this for posterity.

Thanks for the input Fanatics!
