Anyone own an AK-47 ?

I went and test fired some rifles a week ago, I narrowed it down to the AKM- 47 , the AR15 and Bushmaster .223

I felt the AKM was very balanced, spits lots of brass, and power to knock a tree down but heavier and more cumbersome than the AR15.

Does anyone have an AKM that can me give me their thoughts ??

its for recreational shooting and home defense never know what will happen if Obama wins ya know.

it was fairly used, and had a made in the Ukraine stamp on it.
$400

I heard in Africa you can trade them for chickens

The AR15 was $500 in the box brand new

BTW cost is not a factor, sorry should have mentioned that.

I am more concerned w/ relaibilty, $$$ of ammo, stuff like that.

I am worried about a round going thru my wall and down the street hitting a school bus though

An AK will cost you anywhere from 400-600 for a decent to a quality one. Try to find one made by Saiga or Arsenal. They make the best AK's. If you want to go cheap, you could probably pick up a WASR for 300-400. Not as good as quality, but still can get the job done.

For AR's - those will cost you much more. With AR's you really get what you pay for. This applies to pretty much any handgun purpose. I would not trust any AR that cost under $700. The reason is that mil-spec parts/designs take longer to manufacture, have higher reliability and are more accurate.
-AR's to avoid: Hesse, Vulcan, DPMS, Bushmaster
-If you want the best of the best AR's: Colt (still considered the rifle all others are measured up to), Noveske, LMT. These will cost you over $1200
-Quality rifles that will cost under/around $1k: CMMG, Sabre Defence, S&W M&P series rifles, Charles Daly
-These rifles are great bargains, and are still decent quality ($650-800): Stag, Rock River

Here is a great thread showing the breakdown of what you should look for in an AR

^Nope, automatic weapons are, but people can also get a license to own automatic weapons. Getting that license from what I understand is a lengthy process.
