UPDATE:

Found out that my condo cycles the power..i.e. the block heater has power no more than 15 mins on the hour so I think thats why I am seeing close to no effect because of this block heater. It was -25 C past few days and I can tell that the car still hesitates a bit (very little...but still after spending $150 on the block heater I expected better .

At least I know its not the equipment that's failing me but my apt management...

Any word on the wattage on this sucker? Has anyone got those handy "watt-o-meter" that ppl use to monitor their electricity usage?

The E46 M54 block heater is a 300W unit. I saw that number cast into the side of the heater in a picture of a non-BMW branded one from Deka.

Do you guys know if BMW Canada sells an engine block heater for the E53 X5 (2005 4.4i N62 engine)?

I recommend you call around to several dealers and see what they say. From what I heard, newer engines do not have b-heaters - but you can always call. www.bmwcanada.com --> dealers

Keep us updated. GL.

Hey Glenn- I'm actually in the USA and was wondering if someone out there would have a quick answer. I've tried e-mailing BMW CA and no reply. Calling dealers has always been hit and miss for me out here so I was trying to avoid running up a huge phone bill by doing it to Canada!

A lot of them have toll phone numbers. BMW Canada will eventually get back to you - but it could be months.

Try the following as a starter...

1.800.488.2860 <-- Bavaria in Edmonton
1.888.368.6611 <-- Edmonton BMW (not affiliated with Bavaria)

Hope that helps.

Keep it sealed and in your fridge. Someone will want it.

Block heaters

I just got mine from BEMA in Saskatoon for both my 328i and 318i (318i takes a coolant heater). I'm just waiting for the paste form one of you guys. Anybody needs these heaters, call BEMA, they are very efficient and they'll ship it out to you pretty quickly. I was amazed of the service. In Toronto you have to go in person and pay for the parts at time of order and make a second trip to pick them up?!
Kudos to Saskatoon!!!

Pretty sure someone will buy it....not easy to come along in other parts of the country or continent (i.e. US) easily. I had mine shipped from Alberta to Ontario cause local dealers did'nt have one and they could'nt get it either. Put it up on For Sale section?

I agree. Sell it for at least what you bought it for. You will get that back easily.

Hi

Do you have the number for BMW Calgary? I need a block heater bad. It's been a little chilly in Montana this year.

Thanks
