didn't know the non-smoking tray existed, so i just dremeled down the little nubs for holding cigarettes until they were flush with the rest of the tray, masked the light lens, and re-sprayed the piece so you couldn't tell.

Looks great in there thought, would have just ordered one, had I known about it

I know this is a super old thread, but I stumbled into it and love this idea so much that I had to do it myself. Just finished the install on my new button. Thanks for posting this!

I tucked the wire around to the glovebox and put the remote in there. I wanted to be able to get to it so I can change the battery pretty easy.

If assuming you have a soldering iron, it only cost me about $10 for the button and wire.

I don't do much DIY stuff so if I can do it, I'm sure you can.

I use that same button in the same place for the Mute on my V1. Didn't feel like Paying for the concealed display. I putt a little O ring around it under it to help hide some of the metal edges that you can see.

That's a good idea. I'll look for something to dress it next time I'm at a hardware store.

I just did the ashtray replacement according to instructions in this thread - worked out great!

Notes: Whenever the DIY talks about using a dremel, use a sanding attachment (not a cutting wheel). The 3/8" bit cuts the hole nearly perfect, it only needs a little expansion (if any). I sanded a little indention from the back of the new tray leading to the hole I drilled - giving the bulb a sort of groove to allow it clearance, and this made it easy to fit the tray in.

A Dremel makes this a fairly easy mod. Transferring the light lens is easy, just need to make a small square cut-out and then super glue it in as the tabs won't hold due to thickness of the wall. Also made a groove for the bulb to clear as someone mentioned. Be careful when grinding away the plastic protrusion around the bulb though, it's easy to hit it with the grinder fitting.

I installed a slide potentiometer in my ashtray. It's used to control the bass level.
