After doing extensive testing with our HPF Stage 4 turbo system, we found our stage 1-3 intake was unable to provide enough flow for stage 4 due to its small 3" diameter pipe. However... due to space constraints we were unable to run a larger diameter pipe and the other option of running an intake under the car was not feasable due to space. We also didn't want to put a filter any where but in the engine compartment as it would have the potential to pick up water.
As the air on the inlet side of the turbo is not pressurized, it is extremely important to use the largest volume possible when trying to move 900rwhp of air. In fact just by removing the 3" pipe our HPF stage 4 M3 went from 800rwhp to 900rwhp on the same tune without any other changes! Below are pictures of our new "Carbon Fiber" intake and the new coupler that will "now" be standard on all stage 3 and 4 kits. This new intake goes from a very large 4" inlet and increases to 4.5" utilizing a much larger K&N air filter. This intake is pure carbon fiber (3 layers) which is extremely thin but very very strong. This allows us to utilize the maximum amount of space between the body and the engine while still retaining the strength and heat resistance of carbon fiber without worrying about crushing it with the t-bolts. As you can see from the design, it is very intricate and fits around all of the components in the tight area around the engine. Where it appears to be shrunk it the picture, it is expanded in the other directions to make up for the volume lost. This intake (from now on) will be standard on the stage 3 & 4 turbo kits and will be an optional upgrade for the stage 1, 2 and 2.5 kits. We are estimating it will add roughly 10 rwhp to our stage 1 through 2.5 kits without a retune and 25rwhp for our stage 3 kits with a retune. The tooling and processing for the carbon fiber is expensive while custom couplers and a new air filter are necessary to complete this intake system. We're pricing this upgrade for all stages at $495. For those interested in getting on the list for this upgrade, please email david@horsepowerfreaks.com. It will be available for shipment in about 3 months. Here are some pictures of the Solidworks drawings of the intake and coupler. The air filter is a K&N 4.5" filter and fits in the same location. ![]()

yeah that thing.....they were making one that vents out to the air filter side of the HPF kit vs. the air filter side of the oem airfilter

Looks nice!! I for sure don't need 10HP right now, but maybe as I get "used to" the power this will be a nice little upgrade down the road! Too bad it will be pretty much hidden!!
