Help me choose new speakers...
Here's a quick list I compiled of some that fit my budget...
Diamond Audio D661a Diamond Audio S600s Infinity 60.7cs JL Audio XR650-CSi Diamond Audio M661 JBL C608GTI MKii I'm trying to spend $250 or less, but if I cannot get decent speakers at that price I could go up to $300. I'm removing the rear stage so these will be my only set. They are being paired with an an Alpine MRP-F300 amp, bridged, so rated at 150w RMS x2 @ 4 ohms. Image Dynamics IDQ10 subwoofer with Alpine MRP-M500 Amp. If nothing in that list is good, please suggest some others. I will go out and audition any of them that I can find in town, otherwise I'll take recommendations. Also, I listen to ALL kinds of music, so I would like a speaker that can handle most anything. with good midbass. Thanks! -Dylan |

You can get a MUCH better set of comps if you can spend a little over $300. I'd go with the DA S600s if I were restricted to that list.
But you really should do a little shopping and listening before you buy some components. |

Ok then, lets go $350 upper limit, does that increase my options a bit?
The DA S600s have alot of great reviews, but everyone seems to complain about blowing their tweeters?

I would avoid the JLs IMO (owned the Vrs and XRs, not happy with either!). Diamonds I have heard are pretty nice. Otherwise I wouldnt be much help in that price range. There was a guy over on BFC selling some hybrid audio clarus for about 450ish (new in box still). But well over your price range. Here is the link http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1141092 I am in no way associated with the individual selling these. Just want to make that clear. I know a buddy putting the Clarus in his mazda speed 3 in Charlottesville, but may not be done until January sometime. (not sure how close that is to you)

I'm actually in downtown Charlottesvile, near UVA hospital.
I'll look into that thread, I read a few reviews on the Clarus and they were all good things...but the price is quite high for me. |

I had these in my car and never had any problems with the tweets. Were you planning on installing them yourself? If so, you can get your comps from ebay. I believe you can DLS Iridum comps for about $350. Again, I'd do some shopping locally and sample different sets of speakers to see what you like. |

Agree with bigjae.. I have the DA Hex's in my doors right now and for the price range (~$200) they are hard to beat especially if mounted correctly. They get loud as hell and are pretty clean up there. Normal listening volumes they sound very nice. The midbass is ok but it's actually the tweets that have been a ? to me so far. They are pretty bright. Not artificial sounding but just not very warm. I have the silk tweets.
No issues so far with them blowing or anything and like I said they do get loud and like a lot of power. For the $$, they're a good buy. But I'll say this, they will definitely be replaced next summer and I'll be looking for something on the higher end. Have you looked into some Morel Tempos? I saw some on ebay awhile back that went for ~$250

4 door 330 silk tweeters are the best variant for you cause you've pointed that you like ALL kinds of music... For example, titanium tweeters are usually used in musical systems to play electronic music (trance, house and others) - they sound very acute and sometimes it grates on ears so you won't be happy with listening calm and classic music. I bought RockFord Fosgate T162S front midbasses and silk DLS UP1C tweeters with DLS Reference crossovers. If you want a good audiosystem - assemble it yourself

Yeah, I am doing ALL of the work myself, so eBay is a definite option, I've also bought alot of stuff from onlinecarstereo.com and they have good prices too. I'll definitely look into the DA Hex's...
I've also gotten some PMs to make me consider the Hybrid Audio Clarus and although they are alot more expensive the reviews have been stellar, so I may wait a month until I can afford them... |

Its not the best tweeter though but it sounds pretty good. Quote:
I've been looking at their Legatia line which has a 7" basket. Anything bigger than a 6 3/4" basket can be a total PIA to get it to fit. If it is also 3" deep, you won't have very much wiggle room. |

Good point.
The C6-2 has 165mm (6.5") Mids and 20mm (.75" Tweeters) Depth on the mids is not on their webstie so I'm not sure... |

I'm a big fan of JL Audio, but if your thinking of getting the XR 650 CSI and putting a 150 watt RMS load on them, You might as well use the money to wipe your ass.
One of the things that you should never do is max out the wattage on your speakers. If you want them to last you should at least try to follow the recommended settings. For the XR 650 CSI the RMS should be 70 watts with a max of 150. JL Audio just came out with some new speakers, check them out. I usually get my speakers and amps from www.OnlineCarStereo.com They are in Vernon California. They ship pretty fast to. They have the XR 650 CSI's for $239 right now |

I actually ran a pair of JL Xrs up front (6.5") with a 300/4 amp for for the rear pair of Xrs as well, and I blew my front left XR in a year and a half.
IDK what happened it was not even loud when it blew just a little bassy.
