total viewing area of 1 tv over another
I was wondering how much larger a 42 inch tv as opposed to a 37 inch tv in terms of viewing area.
I saw something that said a 47 inch was 62 percent larger than a 37 in terms of viewing area. Is there a chart that says how much larger one tv is over another in terms of viewing area? I tried looking up the specs on various tv s but they only give the exterior dimensions, not the interior. Thanks and happy new year. |

Ok.. New Year. I am here to help.
Here are my three plasmas with quick rounded measurements... 37" is 32x18 = 576 42" is 36x20 = 720 63" is 55x32 = 1760 42" is 125% the size of a 37" 63" is 300% the size of a 37" 63" is 244% the size of a 42" Your basic question answer = 42" is 25% larger than a 37" in viewing area.

I found another way to do it as well....
If the aspect ratio is the same (16:9 for all HDTVs), just square the ratio between the diagonals, i.e. (42/37)² = 1.29 = 129% = 29% larger area It does not have to be exact, just a rough measurement. |

OK, based on the above formula, this is what I came up with.
If the aspect ratio is the same (16:9 for all HDTVs), just square the ratio between the diagonals, i.e. (42/37)² = 1.29 = 129% = 29% larger area 42 vs 37 ... 29 percent larger 46 vs 37 ... 55 percent larger 52 vs 37 ... 98 percent larger 46 vs 42 ... 20 percent larger 52 vs 46 ... 28 percent larger When you are comparing sizes, it is easier for me to see it this way and know the actual increase in area. It is easier for me to see that a tv is 55 percent larger than saying it is 9 inches wider. Just thought you would like to know. I know you have wanted to know this for yourselves. Now your lives can return to normal. |
