Just go to www.pipercross.net
The Pipercross VIS intake is the one that comes close to the BFP and older DINAN CAI. If you want a noisy intake, that's the one to get.

My Ride: changes too much
Is there a sound difference in having a "short ram" and a "cai" that goes all the way down to the bumper?

Even if there was a sound difference the threat of hydrolocking is enough to keep me away from intakes that go down that far. Even if some kind of extreme situation was needed to suck up water extreme situations do happen and its a threat to your car. I have the K&N short ram with the shield of course and honestly I dont know why you would want anything else. It could pass as stock to the uneducated and unaware and you can definitely hear it. That thing sounds absolutely MEAN.

Totally threadjacking my own thread, but I have taken out my washer fluid reservoir too. To get rid of the low fluid error, you just need to bend a piece of wire and fit it into the fluid level sensor socket. Then use some electrical tape to hold it in there. Simple as that.

In addition to appearances, it also is 11.6 lbs on the front of the car, so taking it out or draining it helps performance a small amount.

Now that I actually got a Dinan carbon fiber tube style intake(for free ), I have proof to how useless they are.

They sound they make, is actually pretty annoying, but it is pretty rare since it only happens when you quickly floor the throttle. Otherwise they make now noise. Power wise, nothing I can notice in the slightest.

But they do look really cool. I made myself a custom intake bracket using some 6063 aluminum.

But seriously, a simple intake like this can only be considered a visual mod. Tire brands, removing the spare, or running with a half-empty gas tank all make a bigger performance difference.

My Gruppe M sounds heavenly. People mistake my car for an aston martin sometimes lol. But yeah on the real it makes a big difference, Im going to get a gruppe M exhaust next. BTW dont try to compare your DIY to a True Dinan air intake. I know first hand that combined with the software there is a very noticeable increase in throttle response.

here is a sound clip of a gruppe m

Some do picture it like having a stuffy nose then being free to breathe after.

Yeah, many people picture it like that. I just don't get where everyone got the idea that the stock intake is like a stuffy nose. On some Japanese cars I've seen some pretty bad intake designs, but on M54, it's pretty hard to improve.

Some of these performance gains are definitely illusions brought about by the improved sound of the cai.
