E46 330i Engine Cooling Issue!

I've replaced the cooling fan and the coolant temp sensor. The fan seems to work most of the time but sometimes doesnt. Especailly when I am sitting on bumper to bumper traffic and when the engine temperature rises. What could be the problem?

What brand of electric cooling fan did you buy? The fan is controlled by the engine computer (ECU). The ECU uses the data from several sensors, including the one in the lower radiator hose, to determine when to turn the fan on.

Here's some good reading: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B59...VlE/view?pli=1

Google "BMW E46 hidden OBC functions." Tests #7 will show you the temperature as seen by the ECU. It should remain in the 95*C to 100*C range. What's the condition of the cooling system? Has it been overhauled?
