Swapping clusters/LCM with another car - will tamper dot show?

I am not looking to break the law just a scenario that popped up in my head while I was researching about this retrofit.

I'm looking to update my cluster to an M3 cluster (with canadian km/h since my car is US) as well as update the LCM/LSZ so I can retrofit in LED tail lights. Both the LCM and the new cluster will be coming from the same car.

My question is regarding mileage, will I receive a tamper dot if I switch in both cluster/lcm (from the other car) into my current one? My research leads me to believe the LCM and cluster hold the mileage information.

This leads me to my curious question....if no, then can't people just swap both the cluster and LCM from lower mileage cars to higher mileage? Surely mileage must be stored in the key or another module?

The tamper will likely show up. The key fob holds mileage data also. The components need to synchronized via software. Also, the new cluster + LCM won't match the actual mileage of the car.

No the keyfob does not store any data regarding the mileage. The only thing I can think of triggering the tamper dot is the ews.

Any cluster and LCM will need to be coded for your car or you will get a tamper dot. If you use an M3 cluster in a Non-M without coding you will lose ABS/TC functionality until the cluster is coded and synced.

Well, I think thats if you have the dsc system. The dsc is also coded for vin, but the asc is totally standalone

I went to the dealers for my airbag recall, while they were taking my personal information to put on their system, they had a Holder where they placed the keyfob into and they got my mileage, vin and engine number. So I believe that the keyfob does hold mileage data.

Just did research on it. The key takes the mileage from the cluster.

^So it won't be a problem for the OP. I just realized after I posted, that if I had to give the dealer my other key, they would have got a lower mileage then the one I had been driving with on the way to the dealer. But it would not have been a huge difference, since I used my other key just the day before.

I highly doubt your key holds any data except for a unique identifier which is used to retrieve info on your car from BMW's database. The mileage they see is probably the mileage when it was last serviced or registered.

I could be wrong though so if anybody knows definitively otherwise I'm willing to eat my words.

^The mileage they see is the exact current mileage. When I parked outside the dealer, I noted my mileage at the cluster. Once inside, while the keyfob was placed into the dealerships Key Holder, they told me the exact mileage when I asked. I assume the keyfob must be getting mileage data when turning the car off.

Hence, below in bold letters,
