SONY 200 hz
Dang,
I recently learned about 120hz and 24p picture technology and I found this site describing SONY's new LCD that offers 200hz and a new LCD that is only 9mm thick. I thought 1080p was good...I wonder where tv technology will be 10 years from now. Sony Bravia Z4500 LCD with 200Hz Motionflow http://www.sony.ie/hub/bravia |

What's the point of a 200hz display? The whole idea of 120hz native displays is that it allows for even interpolation of both 30fps/60hz video (120/60 = 2) and 24fps (120/24 = 5) video. 200hz does not even evenly interpolate anything, 200/60 = 3.333 and 200/24 = 8.333. Seems like just more marketing gimmicks.

Good Point. I think the idea of 120hz is because it divides evenly and supposedly prevents stuttering. But 200 does not divide in to 24 or 48 or any other measuring stick. I like the idea of a wireless set though, if it is not going to sacrifice picture quality and it eliminates all those wires. I have a tablecloth over my table to hide the jungle behind the tv. |

And I would guarantee that any wireless connection is going to sacrifice video and audio quality. I saw a demo of a new wireless HDMI transceiver, it costs $2000 (!) and could barely handle 720p video with DD 5.1 audio. Wireless is always going to sacrifice quality for convenience

I thought that frame rates are inconsistent anyway, so a higher refresh rate is better regardless. Yes, having a perfectly divisible refresh rate would be better, but nearly imperceptible compared to a high refresh rate that isn't divisible.

so that is equally divisible into 24. It might be that 200 is so fast for an LCD that it does not matter like you say. How is your new Panasonic working out ? Did you return it for the bad pixels? |

omg, everyone is so ignorant. ITS CALLED PAL (50hz). Mulitply 50hz x 4 and you get 200hz. Do a readup before posting. Additionally, the 52" xbr7 will have 240hz for NTSC and LG just debuted at CES2009 a 480hz tv. I cant wait until 1080hz to match my 1080p tv (insert sarcasm here)

Bottom line is, the refresh rate means absolutely nothing when it's only used for this "motionflow" garbage. Complete gimmick.

the refresh rate doesn't interpolate in between frames correctly. Ergo, when "Motionflow" and "Trueflow" and "Cinespeed" are on and a scene has a lot of fast motion (such as action movies, games and sports alike) you get the ghosting afterglow afftect because they cannot keep up with the frame rate. The bullshit is idiotic. Why have 120hz when the response time on the screen is still above 6ms. Plasma's have not incorporated this gimmick because they do not need to as thier refresh rate is in the picoseconds.
