Actually, it is funny. I love animals, including cats, and can't stand to see them mistreated. But that's just water, maybe with soap. And the cat is more than likely not actually scared, but just has an aversion to being washed.

Vanos maintains a conservative timing profile (Low duration and LSA) from off idle until around 4k rpms when it opens the LSA and increases duration of the intake cam profile. The exhaust profile is varied in correspondence with the intake profile.

Most people would refer to it engaging as it hits the aggressive valve timing profile, but yes, it is active at idle and through the mid range. Its default timing is retarded with a tight LSA which gives you the smooth idle and early torque curve.
