256 VBR is acceptable for 90% of listening. The only time I can tell a difference between that and anything higher is when I'm listening on my stereo system.

I can hear it on my Audio Technia M50's and Cowon player. But your right, MOST people have less than high quality audio playback devices and headphones. I love my Wolfson DAC.
