I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with you on that. I've had my ATV nearly submerged more than once. If that tiny little 1 cylinder can keep enough pressure to stop hydrolock, I'm fairly sure a full sized car can do it. As long as your intake is above the water line you're good.

My Ride: 325i
Most engines can't run once the exhaust system is submerged. Exhaust gas pressure at the tailpipe just isn't high enough on a normal engine at normal engine speeds to overcome the water pressure and keep the pipes clear.
