Hi, if you print this & take it with you, they should know exactly what you are asking for.

The shop that did it for me warned me that there were no guarantees. He said that it does resolve the issue about 9 out of 10 times from his experience, but the other times there could be underlying transmission / drive train issues.

Uhmmmm, yup i paid to have the reprogramming done. I never even tried going to a bmw dealer to ask. I just assumed that since the car is out-of-warrantee that they would stick it to me.

Are you saing that I could have had it done for free @ a dealership?

It's now over five weeks since I had the programming done & it's still 'fixed'. Adaptive learning by the computer has not caused the behaviour to return.

I was wondering if there is a way to go back to the old software version. My dealer did the software update while my car was in service and now its tooo smooth. I like is rough.

I have an automatic and I get a tranny jerk when I accelerate from a dead stop and it shifts from first to second with the revs around 5,500 RPMs. What's interesting is that the jerks seem to be getting less intense. The first few jerks were so violent I thought I'd break my neck, but now they have become a lot less violent but still noticeable. Will a re-flash help this problem? I'm wondering if maybe the jerks have become less violent because the computer is learning my driving style?

You can always go back. It's just firmware loaded into the flash.

I don't know if the dealer will be willing to do it though.

How long ago did you have it programmed? Give it 3-4 days adapt.

Things are always pretty rough after a computer reset. It may be something else, but the computer has to re-learn the car & your driving habits.

its been about a month now. The tech at the dealer said that they are not suppose to revert back to the older version.

Is there any way i can have the older version loaded back into the car's ecu?

thanks

The only way is to find a shop with an older version. I didn't get mine done at a dealer and I am really happy with the result.

What a drag that the dealer reprogrammed your car without you asking. Just because they say they are not supposed to revert back, doesn't mean they can't do it. I would yell a little & ask to see the service manager. They are not supposed to do anything to your vehicle without your written consent.

flashing the software worked for mine too. thanks for the advice guys. I have a friend that is a master mechanic and he hooked it up to his computer and flash the transmission. He also cleared all the codes and it runs like a dream now. I have a couple small oil leaks that need to be fixed and my lower control arm boots are bad. But this car is a dream to drive.
