Ok but seriously I've only been reading about 03 and newer cars having this fix the problem so will it still work for my 99?

if i'm not mistaken, the 99s use the GM 4L30-E. Don't think this applies to that. Yours is most likely a mechanical issue or fluid/filter related. My 99 528i did this from time to time.

This morning was the worst that it ever jerked. I had just entered an on ramp and when i went to accelerate I hit the kick down and the car delayed a little then jerked enough to give me whiplash, then took off it was terrible the whole car just bucked really hard on the kick down..... now what?

Know this is an old thread, but might help someone searching for an answer to the problem I had. Car is E46 with N42motor & GM auto tansmission.
Car was jerking up and down the gears. Very rough changing. Engine idle & driving were otherwise completely normal. Shift electronics light was illuminted on dash instrument cluster in the gear display section.(thats the round gear with exclamation mark in the middle)
I had done extensive work replacing various hoses & gaskets on the motor.
During reassembly I forgot to reconnect the plug on to the air flow sensor on the back
of the air filter housing & also a small vacuum hose on to the bellows next to it.
Reconnected those but then also had to disconnect the battery to get the car to forget it was in safe mode.
Hope this may help someone who thinks they have a transmission problem, but is in reality an airflow meter problem & the car goes into safe mode.

I have the same "jerk" in my 04 auto, I changed my sensors, fuel filter, and all.. But the problem still persists, does the ecu/dme update fix the issues on auto's or is it for manuals only?
