circuit city liquidating

I guess the end is nearing for Circuit City.
It might be a good time to pick up a discounted tv, especially if you can find a disgruntled employee that doesn't care anymore.

Except they are liquidating for 1,5 years. Just another sales tactic.

What do you think are the chances of picking up a 46inch Sony XBR8 with a LED background for 1k?
They sell for like 5k.

None ?

I work at the Raleigh NC store. We will end liquidation on March 21st with or without everything being sold (as we can always take it back to the distributors). We dont even sell the XBR8 (only the XBR6). We wont discount below costs on items and probably wont go below 50% on most items (minus some in house brands and movies/music). I dont mean to be a sourpuss but the deals will be good but not great. And no, you will never see a tv for 80% off msrp. I got mine on an accomodation directly from Sony for 60% off (and that's the highest they have ever been).

Wow, they are not giving you any concessions are they?
Sorry to hear about your job though.

Man, the end of a legacy. I remember working at Circuit in the late 90's, and getting Polk and Infinity discount sheets. Insane discounts on speakers, HK receivers, etc.

RIP, Circuit.

I was born and raised in the Richmond area and losing Circuit City is going to be a bad hit for the area. I heard that Reynold Metals was going under too.
Those are two major employers in the area.

I realize that they were not as competitive as Best Buy and Fry's (inTexas),
but I hate to see anyone lose their job.

Maybe the government should bail them out.

Bail them out? The government shouldn't ever "bail" anyone out, it's a capitalist society, companies should go under if they can't compete and thus fail, ebbs and flows...

No, they should declare bankruptcy and walk away from their debts.

well, i think we should clean up our "lets just make more money" concept in federal budgeting. States are required to meet a balanced budget, why cant the federal gov't. (Department of Defense: $10,000 flashlight)
