I assume we would need all the items 1 thru 7 and you would have to give them your old armrest (they mention "core") in order to do this retrofit if we went this more expensive route of retrofitting, right?

Also what is the "THROUGH-LOADING SYSTEM" that is mentioned?

Ive thought about this many times...but I ultimately decided that it was too much work for something that I don't need. Passengers don't need to be drinking in my car anyways. And if they really feel inclined to, their punishment is having to hold it between their legs.

Through loading system is another term for ski pass through center armrest.

Actually, I was thinking of just buying #7 and find a way to install it.

Ahh... thanks! My car doesn't have the ski pass.

You might need some of the other items in 2 thru 6 since it looks like hardware to get the cupholder to attach to the armrest.

I'd just rather use these instead, they don't cost that much.
or have one of these sit on that back

Uhm...no you would have to order the entire armrest unit with the holder inside already. I assume the holder shown as part#7 is just thr replacement part for a broken holder on an armrest that already came with the holder.

Also that one is ONLY for cars with the fold down seats & ski holder slot.

There is also one for the E46 wagons that have more multi components.

But if your BMW E46 has this type armrest (shown here)

then you need to take it out and carry it down to your local BMW Dealership along with $570 plus tax to get the new console armrest unit shown here;

Uhm... I thought #1, from the description that's given, is the armrest, which is why I assumed before we might need items 1 thru 7.

Also I thought I saw one for E46 sedans that have the multi components like the one for wagons.

Yeah, that's the exact type of armrest I have now. No ski-pass in my car. If I do have to go to the dealership it will be considerably less for us to go thru forum sponsor Evan/Jason@TischerBMW.

True... my 323i actually never came with the rear armrest but last year when I undertook my power/heated/leather front sport seats retrofit, I also purchased the rear seats in leather with the rear armest, all from the same guy who was willing to trade for my leatherette non heated, non power front sport seats and leathette rear seats with no armrest.

The only time it's ever been an issue about not having rear cupholders is when my mother-in-law was in my car and I was driving her back to Pittsburgh after my baby girl was born 4 years ago... she wanted a place to keep the baby bottle and both my front cupholders were in use by other bottles. More than likely if I wanted rear cupholders I would look into an DIY option like the OP is planning on doing.

How much does Tischer BMW sell it for?

Hey Alex,
The threads discuss the same topic of the malnourished E46 Armrests, but the have a different focus.

That thread was a WTF-thread, whereby my thread is a pre-DIY brainstorm/solutions thread.

I need ideas for this mod to work and today I've got some good feedback from creating this thread.

Thanks.
