Question Need Advice: First Gun

I need help finding a gun. Hopefully some of the gun fanatics can suggest a few brands/models.

Background: I like target shooting, but haven't gone in a while. I don't know what's on the market, and I've always used my friends guns or rented one from the range. I want to buy a starter pistol to see if I will actually go to the range enough to make it worthwhile before upgrading.

So I am looking for a relatively inexpensive pistol (but solid quality... so maybe a "Toyota" of pistols , preferably 9mm, and it will be used for target shooting, as opposed to home defense. Any suggestion are welcome.

I think that you have to find the gun that you are comfortable with. It's kind of like asking someone what shoes you should buy or what car you should drive...it's all personal preference. Try a few at the range and pick the one you like. You might not necessarily like the gun I carry, but it's the one I like best.

Glock 17. Practically indestructible, and will shoot anything you put through it.

I like to do my research before I ever pickup a gun. I figured once I get a few recommendations, I can start doing my homework... try out a few, and then make a decision.

I'll treat it like I was buying a car.

Try a few at the range, but check out Glock, Springfield, Walther, and Sig. Those are all dependable and won't entirely break the bank, depending on your price range.

My wife just got her new X-Mas presents before I came offshore. One for the car and one for the house.

The one on the left is for the car and she loves it - A Taurus Para 9MM revolver. Super accurate with plenty of power. We added a modified handle to add some length to it.

Will probably keep it stock, and save the money for an upgrade down the road.

Why? And what might you suggest, out of curiousity?

That's what I hear too, at least about the Glocks.

For the price, I'll probably look at the Ruger P95.

The gun on the left is a Ruger P94 40MM and it's the last Ruger I'll ever buy. It's the most inaccurate gun I own (Err, my wife owns). It'll do some serious damage but if I aim for the chest I'll probably hit the KNUT's.

I have the Springfield XD (Tactical) and swear by that gun. Overrated - Ha!!! The bad guy won't think overrated when I pop him in the exact spot I'm aiming at from 50' away.

glocks feel cheap and shitty. too much plastic. springfields shoot better than glocks and i think they are okay guns, just again, they feel cheap to me. on the other hand, my grandpa only owns springfields. my favorite gun i have is a 9mm Baby Eagle. i have never shot a gun that is more consistent. ever. it has never jammed once in over 6000 rounds and i only clean it every 1000 rounds. it blows my mind. i bought a second one. i also have a sig. and a walther. my next gun will be an HK usp compact.
