/// Ballast Help \\\

Hi fellas,

I need to replace my ballasts since one is failing.

Thinking about just going to www.ddmtuning.com
But I have some questions:
  1. Is it difficult to replace and is there a DIY.
  2. Also what brands are good quality?
  3. Last but not least does this concept apply the same for fog lights?
Meaning...Can I just replace the ballasts as well with the proper bulb (9006 / 8000k) and make them look like the headlights?? Would look evil if it was

Here are the different brands on ddm...
  • DDM 35 and 55 Watt Slim Ballast HID Kit
  • Apexcone
  • Raptor Brand HID

Please chime in...thanks

Aftermarket is fine...

My d2s bulbs are already after market so I don't see the harm going this route...

My d2s bulbs are Phillips by the way...

so you have ultinons? those are the only aftermarket phillip bulbs. even then, i would consider those OEM as they are in asian countries.

note: if you use aftermarket ballasts on your OEM xenons, you will lose the bixenon function (if you have it) and autoleveling. if you are fine with that, then just buy and aftermarket d2s kit and put it in. you don't have to take out the ballast or anything. just leave it there. you can take it out with you like though and send them to me lol

Not sure what ultinons are... But they are most definitely Phillips d2s. I bought these back in 2003...they are 8000k and are still sick.

I don't have bixenon function but the xenons do autolevel when they turn on...is this what you are referring to?

I just need to know if it really matters what brand I choose...and if I change the ballasts and d2s completely.

The prices on http://www.ddmtuning.com/ are siiiiiiiick LOL

I'm scared my ballast may go very soon...it is 8 years old.

As for sending them to you...sure bud LOL!

hmm...phillips don't make 8000k bulbs. you probably got some other ones man and they just put the phillips name on it. the highest they go is 6000k. there have been rumors that they made 8000k, but it's been disproved by phillips themselves.

I was referring to both. so you will be losing your autoleveling, since you don't have bixenons.

as far as the brand goes, not really. but they don't last nearly as long as OEM would. 1-2 years max. then you'd have to swap them out again. what i would do is go to ebay and buy a couple of your ballasts. sure it will cost more, but it's probably going to last for the next 5+ years without a problem. other than that, go for the aftermarket if you wish. let me know if you need any further help.

Thanks for the advice...

Still debating...the original OEM ballasts have lasted quite some time....
8 years and counting

When I get my MTECHII kit this spring I know I'm going to want to match the HIDs and FOGS exactly....8000k for sure. The OEM will be pricey but I'll look into it.

Like I said at the end of the day I want it to match and flow

Thanks for your help thus far
