Pioneer Completely Out of TV Market...

First Fujitsu, now Pioneer.

"Pioneer plans to completely pull out of the television market in face of the poor economy, according to a report in Japan's Nikkei newspaper.

The company had already announced plans to end production of plasma display panels but was intending to continue producing TV sets using panels from Panasonic. But the harsh economic conditions have now pushed the company to leave the TV market, the newspaper said in its Saturday morning edition."

As stated a million times by me...

Panasonic Plasmas FTW.

They have been getting hammered in the market by the lesser cost displays.

vizio killed them. Granted, I HATE vizio, but companies like vizio killed Pioneer as a brand even worth mentioning. I guess im left with good ol' Panasonic.

So is this a good or bad thing for the lower end models?

So is it a good time to pick up a cheap high spec Pioneer plasma?

Glocky, I'm looking to replace my 32" LCD TV (el cheapo) with a big plasma - would going for an end of line Pioneer plasma now make sense (in a value for money point of view?)

I have always said that the Panasonics are the best value (by far) IMO.

Pioneer makes some stunning TVs though.

I would be a little concerned that they are getting out of the industry completely though.

I have a sammy and two panny plasma tvs. My next plasma will be the best panny unless something dramatically changes.

Thanks Glocky.

Could you recommend a Pioneer plasma for me to keep an eye out for? 42" minimum, ideally 50"

And a 50" min Panny for me to check out?

Thanks in advance.

Holy cow! I was all set to buy a Pio 6020 and am now torn. This would be last of the blackest plasmas available but not having support down the road is scary.

As far as I know the 2009 Pannys black levels still haven't matched the Kuros (8G Kuro in 2007). So the Pio 6020 (9G) will still be king for a while. Hmm... decisions decisions.

ehh as far as i'm concerned if my pioneer fails for some reason i get to buy the latest and greatest available at that time. The pioneers have a pretty good track record for not failing from what i read.

It's official. They just released it via press release. Sigh.

Last chance to pick up a 5020 that is at least 2 years ahead of competitor products.

Go with the Pioneer. They have a very low rate of failing and the Kuro is worth it.

Best Buy is having an awesome sale on this years Kuro Elite. I just picked up the 50" for $2800 - almost 50% off of original price! Sale is through next weekend, I think.

THis is rediculious..... I think im gonna be sick.... I have never found another set that represents such a value a Pioneer. You can buy cheaper tvs that look almost as good, but thats like saying I could buy a honda and it would be almost as fast as my bmw...
