My Ride: have 5 doors and FI
|
I would like to (not) thank Umnitza and JLevi
first and foremost - if anyone doubts my technical knowledge of wiring and mechanical expertise...find more threads by me
I regretfully have joined the leagues of folks that have experienced fires due to the ballasts associated with angel eyes. Luckily I am ULTRA sensitive to smells or noises when involving cars...and I could tell there was a problem before it hurt the car in any way. But, let me say this...if a product such as some angel eyes had brought harm to all the work, money and time involved in converting the wagon to 3.0l, 6spd, and SC.....I would have been inconsolable. I have also dealt with numerous rings burnt out, ballast no longer working, etc....I am not sure if the led units are any better...but as far as I am concerned...BMW didnt intend for my car to have angel eyes and I am no longer willing to rely on a cheap alternative.

Wow Stuart how could that possibly happen? Any ideas on what caused the short/fire?
So sorry to hear man ![]() Then again, glad you're ok, weren't hurt, and that your car is more or less ok Wouldn't this happen with just about any of the halos though (not just those sold by umnitza and JL)? Not defending anybody but just asking a question.

the LEDs will not have these problems. I would personally never go CCFL. The LEDs don't draw enough power to really cause a fire as far as I know, and they do not have ballasts.

I knew there was a reason why I've never bothered with Halos! Glad to hear that nothing went awry!

http://www.unitedbimmer.com/forums/l...-fix-rooz.html We do have to distance ourselves from the way the older CCFL-based kits with inverters and the new Orion V2 which does not and will never experience this. If you still have the kit on the car, please let us know if there is a way we can assist you.

If the talk of the LED's not having wiring issues - then maybe I would be interested. But for now - the lack of support on burnt out rings, ballasts and now this fire.....I am very much against and will make it clear that I am against (with proof) that the rings/kits supplied by Umnitza and JLevi are a potential to cause loss of car

come on - can u imagine some kid (and I dont mean dis-respect) trying to (first smell an electrical smolder) catch this and diagnose it before it became an issue?????
If you need pics let me know...not much to see - but there are other occurrences where there has been much to see

As he said we'd be happy to discuss it with you more.
The new LED based Orion V2s have none of the issues associated with any of the CCFL based angel eyes, no ballast or ring failures and no cold weather issues. |
