For some reason it's really funny that you got a pic of the guy. His expression is just priceless!

Glad you're OK, and welcome to the board!

well.. here's a tip for everyone... if you're ever involved in a hit & run... make sure to get the plate first... and then be able to identify THE DRIVER
because even if you get the correct plate, but can't identify the driver ... it's a tough case
the owner of the vehicle can be someone else... or the owner/driver can deny that he was driving his car at the time
and say it was stolen or borrowed or something to that degree

My roommate a few years back was involved in a hit and run some time back. Some SUV hit him so hard that he rearend the car in front of him. He black out for a second and the driver that hit him check to see if he and the driver in front of him was ok. The driver that hit him told my roommate and the other driver to pull over to the side street and they would exchange info. When my roommate and the car in front of him did that, the driver that hit them, just took off.

He drove around for hours looking for the car but couldn't find it. Later that night, he took his bike and rode around the neighborhood where the accident happened for 6 hours. I get a call at 4 am in the morning from him. He found the car! I brought my camera and took some shoots or the car.

The cops came and a report was filed and the guy was later questioned and admitted that he did hit him. He had no insurance. Thing that sucks is my old roommate now had a back problem and he car was totalled. But at least he got the bastard.

I can't believe he rode his bike around for 6 hours during the night looking for the car!

well you won't get a new car out of that damage, it looks rather light for 45mph, probably not even subframe damage. New body panels, front control arm and shock, airbag replacement, and paint should do it. For that much money being submitted to insurance you ought to be able to get a ton of mods... Only in cali can damage that light cost 10 grand...

For comparison's sake, my car: www.bernreuther.com/accident/

Cali rates, that's totalled. NY rates, with hookup: 10k (out of pocket ) Of course getting it back here from cali has shown itself to be horribly difficult...

Wow, not much damage for 45 mph hit and run, glad you're ok.

like i said, the car doesn't look bad at all
but i think that has a lot to do with where the other guy hit me
the hit pushed my front axle
and that must have absorbed a lot of the energy

but who knows
i'll find out tomorrow what the insurance adjuster estimates
and if there's any more damage to the car previously unknown

well... the frame damage is where the door hinge is ... which can be cut out and completely replaced...

which means... no new car for me... *sigh*
oh well, i'll just have to live with it

i'm thinking of buying the newest DDE and installing that while my car's out of commission... since i don't have to worry about finishing the installation before it gets dark since i won't have to drive my banged up bmw for a while

and might pick up a set of 17" style m68's ... maybe that'll ease the pain of having a car that's been violated.

if u have to replace suspension, maybe get some coilovers? prices on stock stuff from BMW should be pricey... might be a good time to do it, if that was ever on your list of things to do

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... just found out today that my body shop is submitting a "supplemental damage estimate" to the insurance...

which means there's even MORE damage than previously thought...

and my car won't be done til end of March...

That's awesome that you caught the guy, especially considering that you had to run after him. Glad to hear you're OK.

.

If I did not have the cam, I probably would have pleaded temp insanity after I brained that drunk teen to bloody pulp. The 2 Officers would have found a prision shank in his dead hands. I would have used force which I deemed necessary. As Pres. Bush says, "I just wanted to liberate him"
