Anyone ever fit 7" drivers in the doors of a coupe?

Anyone? Don't want to buy a set then find out they don't work.

I know 6.5" drivers fit, and depth isn't a problem until you get beyond 3" and change, width wise it looks tight though.

Thinking of a set of Seas ER18RNX.

Thanks!

You should be able to fit them if you mount the speakers to the door instead of the panel, but it will be probably more work than it is worth. By the way the Seas ER18RNX is actually 6.5 inchs, but it is designed for a sealed enclosure and will probably not sound good infinite baffle.

Thanks for the response. I figured I would be fine if I stayed away from something with a huge mounting flange, like the Dayton RS180, I was just wondering if anyone had done it.

Even though the ER18 is a low Qts and Fs driver, it should be fine. If I wanted to alter the total Q of the enclosure I could always put it in an aperiodic membrane to dampen it up a bit, I should have enough depth

Final word: it doesn't work. Not behind the stock door panels at least.

Tried with a Seas G18RNX driver... it'll get caught about an inch from the stock grill, which doesn't leave enough room.

True 6.5" drivers are dandy, however. However, not the ER18RNX, it's 6.9" - not a true 6.5

true - you are limited to a 165mm driver - no larger. Anything bigger would have to be very shallow to have a chance of fitting.

I have seas lotus reference in my coupe doors and it was a VERY tight fit.

I haven't been around much on any of these sites - just different priorities, but I poke my head in from time to time...
