Drew,

Really sorry to hear about your brother....Of course I don't mean the cooling system part or your phone call...I mean the Ohio part! What happened? Was it a girl or a dog?

BTW, Billy Ray (if you're not banned!)...love your new sig!

Hey Doug. Long time, no talk. Where have you been?

He's actually working out there for the obama campaign. He just got a 2002 325xit last week and yesterday the expansion tank blew up on him. So I walked him through the replacement, but now he's having a hard time bleeding it and it keeps getting too hot every time he tries to test it out. I think he messed up a little and jumped ahead of my directions and started filling the ET before turning on the heater and opening up the bleeder valve.

Any thoughts or tips on how to get the air out? Any interest in driving out to Cleveland to help him out?

So my random guess on the seats is that they look like 'status' (maybe stratus?)...and on bleeding for dummies:

fill to between min and max when cold on level or uphill slanted surface--Close cap and bleeder screw.

Key pos 2, heater on, 3 red dots

Start car and rev to 4K rpm for 20 secs. and turn off.

Check level again...add if more is needed...and repeat.

I think a lot of people just glug the coolant in and push an air bubble into the system.

Anyway, Drew, sorry to hear about your bro and the beagle thing...you really didn't need to go into that whole 'obama campaign' story. I can only imagine how you feel!

Everyone seems to have a different way to bleed the system Cap and bleeder screw closed? I always thought open them up, add coolant with the heater on.

I hope he can work it out. So you're a no on going to cleveland then? What ever happened to helping out a fanatic in need?

Well there are maybe 3-4 ways to bleed, but this is the easiest to explain, I think.

Yes, cap and bleeder closed. If there's air, it will come up in the ET and the coolant level will drop. Still the heater needs to be on so the water valve is on.

I think you get one chance to bleed right with the system totally drained...I've never had an issue with the 'car off' bleeding myself, but many seem to.

Just make sure that the level when cold is between min and max and make sure he keeps checking it for a while. Please ask him to send me the gummi if it works. For a quart of the stuff, though, I'd be glad to visit beautiful Ohio, and even root for the more beautiful Obama!
